Hogwarts castle at night

As an passionate fan of the Wizarding World, I couldn‘t wait to step into the shoes of my own custom student wizard in Hogwarts Legacy. Mastering classes, taming magical beasts, exploring a stunning open world…this game delivers everything fans could dream of.

However, unlocking new and powerful spells is arguably the most exhilarating part of progressing through the game‘s massive magical arsenal.

And assignments are the key to acquiring these awesome new spells!

Professors assign these unique quests that directly reward your efforts with access to iconic Harry Potter spells upon completion. As both a completionist gamer and hardcore Potterhead, I knew I had to create the ultimate guide to blasting through these assignments efficiently in order to collect every spell possible!

So let‘s dive right into the secrets to mastering assignments and filling out your spell loadouts with devastating, lore-friendly magic!

So in summary – skipping assignments means missing out on integral pieces of the genuine Hogwarts experience while severely limiting your magical capabilities. No self-respecting wizard can allow that!

Types of Assignments

Before we dive into the individual assignments, it‘s important to understand the two main categories:

Main Story Assignments

  • 5 mandatory assignments related to critical Hogwarts classes
  • Must be completed to advance the plot
  • Teach core combat, traversal, and puzzle-solving spells

Optional Assignments

  • 7 assignments available as special side content
  • Reward some of the most powerful battle spells
  • Unlock collection items and challenges for completionists

Now let‘s break down how to blast through each assignment efficiently!

Walkthroughs – Main Story Assignments

These core assignments are interwoven into the critical path – thankfully they are very straightforward.

Professor Ronen‘s Assignment (Reparo)

Player inspecting Hogwarts statue

Fresh off your OWL exams, Professor Ronen immediately puts your skills to the test in the first mandatory assignment.

You‘ll need to track down Flying Pages – arcane scribblings notoriously difficult to capture – located in the Transfiguration Courtyard and Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower.

Use Accio whenever you spot a page fluttering about out of reach – this summoning charm yanks the page right to your grasp. Once acquired, the page itself provides clues leading to the next one.

After reporting back to Professor Ronen, you‘ll be rewarded with Reparo – the supremely useful mending charm allows reconstructing bridges, stairs, statues, and other environmental objects crucial for navigating puzzles and hidden areas.

I relied heavily on Reparo throughout my entire journey – an early assignment reward that keeps on giving!

Professor Hecat‘s Assignment I (Incendio)

Student practicing Lumos spell

Professor Hecat doesn‘t mess around when it comes to Defense Against the Dark Arts training.

She‘ll immediately pit you against fellow students in Crossed Wands duels where you must tactically counter shields using the appropriate spells:

  • Levioso for Diffindo shields (yellow)
  • Depulso for Protego shields (purple)

Winning earns you 180 XP per duel – but more importantly completes part 1.

You‘ll also have to hit an animated target dummy with various knockback spell combinations – lure it in with Accio before juggling it with Depulso and your basic attack.

This demonstrates your competency in utilizing spell synergies against evasive foes.

The payoff? Incendio, the iconic fire-making spell perfect for roasting Acromantulas, trolls, and any other foul beasts standing in your way. Don‘t leave Hogwarts without it!

Professor Garlick‘s Assignment I (Wingardium Leviosa)

Girl surrounded by magical plants

This Advanced Herbology assignment from Professor Garlick requires getting your hands dirty with two volatile combat plants:

  • Venomous Tentacula: Found at Dogweed & Deathcap shop in Hogsmeade. Costs 600 Galleons.
  • Mandrake: Also sold at Dogweed & Deathcap for 500 Galleons.

Once acquired, simply chuck these angry plants into crowds to watch them wreck shop!

Alternatively, purchase their planting seeds for future greenhouse usage:

Venomous Tentacula600Tentacula Seeds1050
Mandrake500Mandrake Seeds800

Whichever method you choose, completing Professor Garlick‘s quest bestows Wingardium Leviosa – the iconic levitation charm used for maneuvering objects and foes with magical precision.

A must-have for any aspiring wizard!

Professor Weasley‘s Assignment (Transformation)

Interior Hogwarts library

This Transfiguration assignment has you hunting down elusive Field Guide Pages for Professor Weasley:

  • Page 1: Located in the Underground Harbor, revealed by lighting wall torches
  • Page 2: Disguised in the Restricted Section library book Intermediate Transfiguration. Answer Librarian NPC Sophronia‘s HP trivia questions correctly after casting Revelio to unlock it.

With the pages in hand, attend Weasley‘s subsequent Transfiguration Class to receive the coveted Transformation Spell.

This allows morphing checkpoints, enemies, and environmental objects into random items – extremely useful for solving puzzles and tactically turning the odds in a pitched battle!

The creativity possible with Transformation makes this one of my personal favorite Hogwarts Legacy assignments.

Optional Assignments

While optional, these additional assignments reward spells so devilishly powerful they make the extra effort worthwhile!

Madam Kogawa‘s Assignments (Glacius & Arresto Momentum)

Students flying on broomsticks

Searching the skies for balloons to pop while mounted on your broomstick may seem silly, but doing so allows Madam Kogawa to assess your aerial maneuverability.

You‘ll have to locate and burst:

  • Assignment I: 5 balloons at Hogsmeade Station and 5 over the Quidditch pitch
  • Assignment II: 5 balloons scattered through the Spires and 5 balloons above Keenbridge Tower

It‘s a simple enough test made far easier once you unlock the trusty Nimbus 2000 broom.

The payoff? Two incredibly handy combat spells:

  • Glacius: Encases enemies in magical ice, shattering shields
  • Arresto Momentum: Creates a delayed blast that slows groups after impact

I regularly relied on these spells for crowd control against mobs of foes. Don‘t sleep on Madam Kogawa‘s assignments!

Professor Garlick‘s Assignment II (Flipendo)

<img src="https://i.imgur.com/KHV90Cs.jpg" alt="Student making potion" width="350" height="200" style="float:right;margin-left:15px;>

This advanced Herbology quest upgrades the stakes by having you cultivate Fluxweed then weaponize three lethal plants simultaneously:

  • Venomous Tentacula
  • Mandrake
  • Chinese Chomping Cabbage

First purchase Fluxweed seeds from Magic Neep in Hogsmeade (350 Galleons). The seeds can be grown into Fluxweed using any potting table – simply plant them and wait about 15 minutes before harvesting the mature plant.

Next gather the remaining plants from Dogweed & Deathcap, either fully-grown or in seed form.

With all four vegetation-based weapons in your arsenal, toss them into crowds and watch the carnage ensue!

Professor Garlick handsomely rewards this botanical warfare by teaching Flipendo – generates a force blast upon impact to flip, launch or detonate floating targets. Fantastic for juggling aerial foes!

Final Tips for Assignment Success

As you set upon your quest to collect every spell by completing all assignments, keep these tips in mind:

  • Attend classes consistently for opportunities to unlock new assignments
  • Use Revelio and Accio to reveal hidden items and objects crucial for puzzles
  • Save money by selling off excess gear and plants when short on coins
  • Carefully consider your equipped spells and abilities for optimal loadout synergy
  • Don‘t be afraid to experiment with combining spells for unexpected devastation!

So there you have it – everything you need to know about conquering assignments and expanding your magical arsenal within Hogwarts Legacy!

Go forth and unleash some iconic Wizarding World magic fellow Potterhead! The prestigious House Cup awaits the most skillful witch or wizard.
