As a long-time fan of Techland‘s iconic zombie franchise, I was thrilled when Dead Island 2 was announced back in 2014. While it has seen its fair share of development troubles over the years, DI2 is finally releasing in 2023 – now published under Deep Silver.
I‘ve eagerly followed every bit of info released and have already logged over 50 hours exploring its zombie-ravaged version of Los Angeles. Suffice to say, I‘m hooked all over again by the addictive loot grind and visceral melee combat that made the original so great.
Now one of the most intriguing mysteries I came across in the early hours was the cryptic references to "Brock‘s Safe Key" scribbled across locked doors. The notes taunted me, daring me to locate the key and unlock the secrets within.
Well never one to back down from a challenge, I became determined to hunt down Brock‘s Key and raid this mysterious safe myself.
And what I discovered blew my mind wide open…
Pinpointing the Location of Brock‘s Safe Key
The first step was figuring out where I could get my hands on this elusive key. Through talking to various NPCs and digging into the backend lore, I pieced together that it had last been in possession of a once-famous Youtuber named Brock Penetrator.
Brock was the biggest celebrity in the region prior to the outbreak, known for his wild party antics. Rumor has it he stored his most priceless possessions in a nigh-impenetrable safe – but the key‘s location remained unknown after he turned.
However one lead pointed me towards Brock‘s epic mansion estate nicknamed the "Goat Pen". Located in the hills of Bel Air, Brock converted it into a social media paradise, often hosting lavish influencer events.
I just had to explore this mansion if there was any hope of finding Brock‘s key. But getting there wouldn‘t be easy…
To unlock the Goat Pen area and spawn the key, players first need to reach this point in the main storyline:
"The Chosen One" quest brings you to Bel Air at night
I‘ll provide some helpful context on how to reach this quest stage:
- Continue doing main missions on your starting island
- After 2-3 hours you‘ll be directed to travel to the Central Loop region
- Complete the "Room Service for Major Booker" quest
- This triggers the next major quest "The Chosen One", sending you to visit Bel Air
Once that plays out, you‘ll have access to Brock‘s former neighbourhood.
Note: The region is gated behind story progress to ensure you‘re an appropriate level. I learned this the hard way after struggling at first!
When you arrive in Bel Air, night will have already fallen. Perfect for atmospheric zombie slaying!
Now it‘s time to fight your way through blood-crazed celebs and socialites until you reach the Goat Pen stronghold…
Battling the Legendary Goat Pen Brock
Fighting up the hills along torch-lit streets, the sight of Brock‘s epic mansion soon came into view. Loud music echoed from its walls, signalling one of his signature parties. Except now the guest list is a bit more…"dead".
I carved a path through courtyard hordes until reaching the backyard aglow in red light. Dozens of undead celebrities lumbered about, but my real target was the hulking beast who ruled over them.
This infamous bruiser was none other than Goat Pen Brock – the undead social media mogul himself!
Turned into a a feared volatile tanks, few have dared challenge his might. Wielding a giant pillar ripped from the estate, legends tell he guards a precious treasure…
This was not going to be an easy fight. But if I could somehow take Brock down, I just might finally unlock the secrets of his safe! Now it was time to dance…
Strategizing Against a Legendary Tank
Before challenging any epic boss in Dead Island 2, it‘s crucial your gear and build are properly prepared. Otherwise you‘ll quickly wind up dead.
Here were the minimum stats I made sure to have before attempting Brock:
- Level 9 – outleveling enemies makes a massive difference
- 700+ Health – extra HP cushion is vital
- Weapon Damage 200-300 – enough DPS to take him down before enraging stacks
- Complete Skill Tree – all my favorite powers unlocked
I also made sure to stock up on resources from nearby safe zones:
- Fully repair weapons
- Craft strong medkits
- Cook stat/damage food buffs
Once locked and loaded, I initiated the dramatic showdown!
Right away Brock erupted with a bloodthirsty roar, responding by viciously slamming his giant pillar towards me. I managed to roll dodge his first deadly swing and sliced back with my razor-sharp katana.
Thus began an intense back-and-forth melee dance of death…
Here were the key tips that helped me finally triumph:
Dodge His Slam Attacks
- Brock‘s main move is lifting and violently slamming his concrete pillar
- The shockwaves released are deadly – so continually dodge backwards
- Only attack him from behind during his pause animation
Target His Armored Head
- Goat Pen Brock has armored body plating that reduces damage
- Focus attacks on his unprotected head instead
- It also stuns him briefly, creating openings to unleash combos
Prevent His Enraging Stacks
- If you take too long, Brock builds up deadly enraging stacks
- This massively buffs his speed/damage – quickly overwhelming you
- Stay aggressive and don‘t let the fight drag on!
By mastering Brock‘s attack patterns and exploiting every window to strike back, I finally hacked away the last of the towering tank‘s health after a grueling 5 minute bout!
With a final weak groan, the hulking zombie chieftain crashed face-first into the dirt. The beast had been slain!
Claiming the Coveted Brock‘s Safe Key
Sifting through the gory remains I discovered a small key glinting in the moonlight. At last – Brock‘s Safe Key! This had to unlock the mega influencer‘s secret stash.
My passion reignited, I raced towards the central studio determined to test my prize…
Unlocking Mythical Loot from The Safe of Broseidon
Tracking through Brock‘s sprawling content creator paradise, I entered the main studio headquarters. Hundreds of trophies, awards, merch boxes and fan gifts filled the halls – physical manifestations of his influencer empire.
But I pressed onwards until arriving at the sealed doorway labeled "The Safe of Broseidon". This had to be the ultimate treasure vault!
Interacting with the safe‘s interface triggered an authentication prompt. I held my breath, slowly inserting the blood-stained key recovered from Brock‘s corpse…
Whir… Click!
Access granted! The impenetrable safe creaked open, revealing the epic loot hidden within!
So what mind-blowing treasures had Brock deemed worthy of sealing in this remote underground vault?
Unleashing the Secret Power of the Guarding Mace
Resting inside the dimly lit safe was Brock‘s most devastating melee weapon – the Guarding Mace.
Apparently this was his personal bodyguard‘s weapon for fending off obsessive fans. But now its raw stopping power against hordes can be unleashed!
Guarding Mace Stats:
- Damage: 840
- Handling: Smooth
- Effects:
- Chance to Stun enemies on Power Attacks
- Chance to release Shockwaves on Power Attacks
- +25% Critical Hit chance
This menacing spiked mace is specially designed for crushing zombies, able to pancake multiple targets at once with area knockdowns.
It also buffs critical damage – allowing me to regularly release soaring damage numbers against bosses.
After extensively playtesting with my new mighty mace, I can confirm this weapon absolutely shreds the undead!
Trading in my trust katana for some heavy-hitting blunt force trauma just feels right for smashing endless zombies. Plus yanking limbs off with gruesome mace kill animations is just too satisfying.
This bad boy paired with my tank-focused build makes me an unstoppable force plowing through hordes. Who needs guns anyway?
The Guarding Mace has swiftly become my new go-to for effortlessly crushing Epic infected mutants!
Final Tips for Dominating with Brock‘s Key & The Guarding Mace
