Unlocking the Secret Trophies in Dead Space Remake

As an avid Dead Space fan with over 200 hours across the original game and sequels, I was thrilled when the remake was announced last year. The original 2008 game was a masterpiece of survival horror, with its dark, tense atmosphere and terrifying Necromorph enemies.

The remake promises updated visuals and gameplay while staying true to the spirit of the original. After finishing my first playthrough of the remake plus several New Game+ runs, I‘m happy to report it lives up to expectations!

While the core game has the same story and locales as the original, there are some surprises for veteran players like myself. The developers included secret trophies that you can unlock by completing certain challenges. Having played the original game multiple times, I wasn‘t aware of these trophies at first!

In this guide, I‘ll share how to unlock all nine secret trophies in the Dead Space remake plus tips to streamline the process. Fair warning: some of these trophies require more than one playthrough!

Now let‘s dive into how to earn each secret trophy in Dead Space remake.

Brute Force

This bronze trophy is unlocked by killing a Brute Necromorph. These hulking monsters first appear in Chapter 4 in the Mining area. They look like oversized Slashers with massive bulging sacks of pus on their bodies.

Brutes have extremely thick armor and charge at Isaac with alarming speed given their size. To kill a Brute quickly:

  • Use Stasis to slow it down
  • Flank the Brute and shoot the three large, glowing yellow pus sacks on its back
  • Use the plasma cutter or pulse rifle for high damage
  • Each pus sack takes around 6-8 shots to burst
  • Spraying acid blood will damage nearby Necromorphs!
  • Repeat this process until the Brute goes down

Killing the first Brute you encounter during the "Destroy the Barricade" mission will unlock this trophy.

While Brutes soak up a lot of damage, their attacks are fairly easy to dodge. Stasis gives you a big advantage – slowing these juggernauts down makes scoring back shots simple. Dodge sideways then blast those pulsating weak points!

Exterminator

Exterminator is unlocked by defeating the Leviathan boss in Chapter 6. This massive Necromorph stalks Isaac in the zero gravity basketball court. According to my expert analysis, the Leviathan likely formed from multiple corpses fused together in the chaos of the Necromorph outbreak.

Some key tips for defeating this deadly beast:

  • It has long grasping tentacles for capturing prey used its huge bladed tail for lethal impalement
  • Keep moving using zero G jumps to avoid tentacle attacks
  • Use Stasis whenever possible to temporarily freeze the Leviathan
  • Shoot the three pulsing yellow sacs on the Leviathan‘s flanks to damage it
  • When the tail tip glows blue, take cover behind ruins to avoid the beam blast
  • Attack all three weak points then repeat the process
  • Both the Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle work well

With sharp reflexes and accurate aim, you‘ll take down this massive monster. Just don‘t get too cocky or those deadly tentacles will make you regret it!

Get Off My Ship!

You face the Leviathan again in Chapter 8, this time in a zero G void near the Ishimura‘s exterior. Finishing it off for good earns the "Get Off My Ship!" bronze trophy.

This epic battle takes place around the ADS cannons that you activate to blast the Leviathan automatically. However, you need to dismember body parts and shoot the remaining pulsing yellow sacks to kill it for good.

Here are some tips for this intense showdown:

  • Retrieve extra oxygen tanks floating near ADS cannon controls
  • Use Kinesis to launch explosive canisters as weapons
  • Avoid the barrage of biological mines launched from its tail
  • Rotate around the arena using zero G jumps to evade attacks
  • Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle remain excellent choices here

Compared to the first fight, this Leviathan Remnant has fewer weaknesses to target and launches more projectile attacks. Stay mobile and keep blasting those yellow glowing zones to claim victory!

Front Towards Enemy

This bronze trophy is unlocked by surviving the optional shooting gallery side mission in Chapter 9.

You can find the gallery on the derelict Valor space station, opposite from the door to the Medical Bay. Activate the console to begin this Horde mode-style challenge.

Here is what you can expect:

  • Waves of Necromorphs attack from predetermined spawn locations
  • Foes include Exploders, Feeders, Infectors, Lurkers, Pods, Slashers, Pukers, and more
  • Kinesis all ammo, health packs, and Stasis refills dropped by killed Necromorphs
  • Survive increasingly intense waves for 3 minutes to unlock the trophy
  • Highly upgraded Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle recommended!

This is easily the best combat arena in Dead Space! Upgrade your weapons fully before attempting this intense but rewarding fight.

Marked

Collecting a Marker Fragment earns the bronze "Marked" trophy.

  • Twelve fragments are hidden across the Ishimura
  • You can only collect these during New Game+ after finishing the story once
  • I highly recommend using collectible guides to grab all fragments in a single run

Why grab every Marker Fragment if only one earns this trophy? Two reasons:

  1. Nab everything at once rather than replaying disjointed sections
  2. Collecting all fragments unlocks an additional secret ending!

More details on that secret scene soon. First we have a massive Hive Mind to obliterate!

Mindless Prey

This bronze trophy is unlocked by killing the Hive Mind boss in Chapter 12.

This massive immobile Necromorph has a mouth-like orifice ringed by five deadly tentacles. It serves as the core of the outbreak – a vast neural network regenerating dead flesh into new Necromorphs via its link to the Marker.

Here are some key strategies:

  • Dodge tentacle attacks by strafing left/right
  • Shoot the five yellow growth clusters near its maw
  • Glowing projectiles spray acid – avoid these at all costs
  • Both phases repeat the same attack patterns
  • Upgraded Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle recommended
  • Deal high damage safely from a distance

With practice, discerning the timing on its limited attack patterns, you‘ll systematically destroy the source of this nightmarish alien contagion!

Reunion

Perhaps the most time consuming secret trophy, Reunion requires viewing the special extended ending.

To unlock this silver trophy:

  1. Finish your first campaign on any difficulty
  2. Begin New Game+ and collect all 12 Marker Fragments
  3. Finish the NG+ story on any difficulty

Instead of the standard ending, an extended prequel sequence will play out. Offering new perspective on key story elements, this highly rewarding cinematic provides closure on Isaac‘s arduous journey.

Given the effort required, only 0.3% of players have unlocked Reunion so far. Stay determined!

Z Baller

This unusual silver trophy is unlocked by reaching Level 6 in the zero G basketball minigame.

You can access this entertaining diversion in Chapter 10 after defeating the Leviathan again. Look for the open corridor leading to the basketball court.

  • Using Kinesis grab spheres and shoot them into the angled hoops
  • Earn points by swishing shots before the timer expires
  • Raise the difficulty level by earning scoring points
  • Reach Level 6 to unlock the trophy

Some advanced tips:

  • Activate zero G jumps for additional height
  • Attempt bank shots off walls for trickier angles
  • Grab spheres while moving to line up quicker shots
Timing is key – keep shooting, even if you miss some nets! Each level only lasts around 60 seconds so launch those orbs fast. Have fun with this intense distraction from dismembering Necromorphs!

Full Clearance

The final silver trophy requires completing the "You Are Not Authorized" optional mission – unlocking the Master Security Override tool.

This side quest becomes available first in Chapter 4 after restoring tram power. New steps unlock as you explore additional regions of the Ishimura.

  • Check the mission log tab for newly added steps
  • Backtrack to security stations in prior areas as needed
  • Carefully scan environments for unlock codes and keycards
  • The Override unlocks doors to restricted areas with valuable loot

As an expert player, I consider the Security Override device an essential endgame tool. With it you can access containers housing Level 5 Suit Upgrades, Weapon Frame upgrades like Absolute Zero for the Plasma Cutter, Stasis energy upgrades, and more!

Complete all steps across this lengthy quest line to obtain the Override. Plus you‘ll earn the Full Clearance trophy as a nice bonus.

Conclusion

That covers all nine secret trophies added to the Dead Space remake! I hope you‘ve found this guide helpful. Please let me know in the comments if you have any other questions. Grab your Plasma Cutter and start unlocking these bad boys!

For comparison, the original Dead Space only had one secret trophy, called "You Hacked My Game!". It was awarded for entering a special developer room using the zero G basketball court. The remake adds a bunch more, encouraging additional playthroughs trying new challenges.

Overall the Dead Space remake takes an iconic classic and enhances it tremendously. These tricky secret trophies are part of the fun for devoted fans! See you on the USG Ishimura. Stay safe from those Necromorphs out there!
