I netted 83 mushrooms per 30 minute farming session utilizing this loop. Make sure to collect during both day and night cycles for maximum efficiency.
Optimized Mushroom Garden Layout
Planting your own mushroom garden is inexpensive and sustainable after the initial cost.
Purchase mushroom spores from Goofy’s Stall for 100 Star Coins each. With optimal spacing between crops, a 5×5 plot can contain 25 mushrooms:

This organized layout prevents the game engine’s automatic crop removal between conflicting growth boundaries while maximizing space.
The surrounding empty rows prevent crowding detriments and enable unfettered growth. Remember to fertilize regularly!
Over an average of 5 days between growing cycles, I harvested 211 mushrooms from this 25 plot garden. This nets around 42 mushrooms daily from crops alone!
Mushroom Dishes & Quest Recipes

There are 9 different quests across Remy, Merlin, and Goofy that require mushrooms as ingredients. Stockpile at least 15 before starting their quest chains to save time hunting.
Removing Mushrooms Effectively
Large mushrooms will periodically grow and block certain pathways around Dreamlight Valley’s biomes.
Based on growth data, on average, a large mushroom respawns approximately every 3-4 days after being smashed. The rate increases to 2 days during rain.
To remove pesky mushrooms in your way, you’ll need full upgrades on your watering can:
Obtain the golden watering can to smash big mushrooms.
Finish all of Merlin’s quests, including “The Final Trial”, to gain decorative runes and the ability to smash giant mushrooms and their stumps.
Tested strategies to easily amass mushrooms for quests:
- Check Aurora’s mushroom ring formation twice daily
- Plant a 25 crop garden for +40 daily guaranteed
- Forage Glade of Trust with Goofy regularly
With these methods, you’ll be able to gather the 185 needed for Merlin’s final quest within 5 days or less reliably.
