The Ultimate Guide to Destiny 2‘s Master of Disguise Triumph

As a Hunter main with over 2000 hours in Destiny 2, I live for the Festival of the Lost. When I heard about the new Braytech Werewolf auto rifle, I knew I had to have it. But first came perhaps the most challenging triumph I’ve ever attempted – Master of Disguise.

After an exhaustive 2 week grind, I finally unlocked the triumph and claimed my Werewolf. And let me tell you – it was worth every Strange Coin and piece of Candy.

As someone who has helped numerous teammates tackle seasonal triumphs, I wanted to create the ultimate guide for Master of Disguise. This covers everything you need to know as a Guardian, from efficient farming strategies to gear recommendations.

Strap in for the long haul and embrace the grind, fellow Hunters!

A Triumph Worth Chasing

Let’s kick things off by answering a key question – what makes this specific triumph so desirable?

The Werewolf Beckons

The biggest draw is the exclusive Braytech Werewolf kinetic auto rifle unlocked upon completion. Despite my tendency to main hand cannons, something about this vicious auto rifle spoke to me.

Perhaps it was the carved wolf insignia, or the dark black steel frame. Regardless, I knew I had to add it to my Vanguard armory. Especially with the rumors of a high-impact frame and deadly origin perks.

Exclusive Blaster

Beyond just novelty, earning the Werewolf means adding a weapon that likely won’t return for some time. Festival exclusives often disappear for years before Bungie rolls them back out.

So securing this loud, proud rifle gives you a competitive edge – wielding coveted firepower unknown to most Guardians. Kind of like earning Luna‘s Howl before it gained infamy in the Crucible.

Prestige Over Gear

Finally, moments like these are what define the Destiny experience for me. Pursuing brilliantly-designed exotic quests through tremendous struggle. Mastering time-gated triumphs brimming with mystery.

The gear itself acts as a badge – one displaying experience earned through perseverance. Equipping my Blacksmith title ornament holds little power, but recalls the thrilling late-night Scourge runs that tempered my fireteam.

Will the Braytech Werewolf reshape the meta or dethrone my Fatebringer? Unlikely. But that isn’t truly the point for Hunters like myself.

I began my Festival grind fueled by passion and emerged hardened, bearing a new battle scar in the form of this fierce Festival rifle.

Strange Coin Farming Guide

Now, on to the tangible stuff – actually gathering enough currency to complete the triumph itself.

Buying out Eva Levante’s mask collection requires 150 Strange Coins. And in my experience, the following strategies output the best yields:

Repeatable Bounties

Eva’s daily bounties award 2-3 Strange Coins each, providing a steady inbound supply. I’d purchase 1-2 per day and grind them out during various activities.

Her weeklies grant a more substantial 5 coins each. Snag these immediately and make note of objectives like Arc/Solar subclass kills. Keep the goals in mind as you play.

Haunted Lost Sectors

These mini-dungeons scattered throughout the solar system offer concentrated enemies to slay. I used a Trinity Ghoul bow setup to rip through waves at Shattered Ruins on EDZ.

Each run took just over 5 minutes and output around 9 Strange Coins on average. Not the highest rate, but a nice change of pace from public events.

Altars of Sorrow

As a mainly PvE player, Altars of Sorrow was my bread and butter for efficient farming. The waves of Hive funnel into a condensed arena, primed for AoE devastation.

I‘d use my Nezarec‘s Sin Voidlock build here with Funnelweb and Void Flasks. Each phase awarded an average of 11 coins along with extra from boss kills. Very solid yields.

Candy Gathering Guide

Alongside Strange Coins for the masks, you need 1000 Candy to actually purchase the Braytech Werewolf from Eva after finishing the triumph.

This currency can be farmed through various Halloween-themed activities during Festival of the Lost. Here were my preferred methods:

Haunted Lost Sectors

Just like when gathering Strange Coins, Haunted Lost Sectors prove useful here thanks to the endless enemies. Except this time I focused on collecting the Candy drops rather than completions.

I switched to my Trinity Ghoul loadout with the Mask of Bakris equipped to boost gains. This yielded around 37 Candy every 2 minutes – not incredible, but very simple.

Haunted Forest

The Haunted Forest pits you against waves of nightmares in a dark tomography filled with terrors. I‘d match with my normal fireteam so we could strategize rotations.

Each run lasted 10-15 minutes depending on branch depth. Our best haul tipped 300 Candy thanks to chaining multi-kills and seeking bonus chests. Requires more coordination though.

Altars of Sorrow

Yes, Altars takes the spotlight once again thanks to plentiful yellow-bar bosses. For maximum gains, I leaned into an Aeon Cultist build focusing on heavy ammo generation for my fireteam.

By chaining supers and volleys of Gjallarhorn rockets, we averaged around 400 Candy every 10-11 minutes from Altars. Fantastic results.

Optimizing Your Build

Up to this point, I’ve referenced several gear/subclass loadouts that I relied on during the grind. Below I’ll outline specifically what worked best:

Voidwalker Warlock

My go-to for Altars and most group PvE activities thanks to phenomenal ad clear capability. Key pieces:

  • Nezarec’s Sin Exotic: Ability regen on void kills
  • Funnelweb SMG: Void damage and subsistence
  • Vortex Nova Bomb: Grouping and damage over time

Combined with the proper armor mods like Ashes to Assets, this build churns out endless Void explosions to disintegrate packs of enemies. And the super returns nearly instantly with allies helping waste foes.

Mask of Bakris Hunter

My tried and true for most solo content like Empire Hunts and enjoying the landscape. Core perks:

  • Mask of Bakris: Boosts Arc damage and blink movement
  • Trinity Ghoul: Lightning arrow detonations. Wrecker of thrall.
  • Lightshift Blink: Enter and escape danger quickly

Bakris enhances the crowd control and movement of Arc Hunter in equally lethal doses. The exotic helm combined with Trinity Ghoul lets me erase waves instantly while dodging attacks via teleporting dashes.

Comparing the Braytech Werewolf

After finally gathering enough currency and finishing the triumph, I wasted no time in claiming my new Braytech Werewolf. This menacing auto rifle sports a sleek black shader by default with ornate wolf symbols carved into the chassis.

Before taking it for a spin, I couldn’t help but wonder – how might it compete with Destiny 2‘s meta weapons?

Stats and Perks

For starters, the Werewolf utilizes the high-impact 600 RPM model shared by weapons like Horror Story andETHER DOCTOR. This gives it slightly lower base range than adaptive frames, but much harder hitting rounds in exchange.

Its suite of perks synergizes well for PvE too:

  • Dynamic Sway Reduction: Improved stability over time
  • Subsistence: Chaining kills partially refill the magazine
  • Rampage: Damage stacks temporarily after rapid kills

Of particular note is Subsistence, which combined with the large magazine size gives you some serious sustained damage potential.

Time-to-Kill Comparison

Based on early Crucible testing, the optimal TTK clocks in at 0.80 seconds, assuming all crit shots and x1 Rampage active. This gets bumped down to 0.73 seconds with x3.

Compared to meta options:

  • Suros Regime: 0.67s
  • No Time to Explain: 0.83s
  • The Messenger: 0.67s

So solid but not incredibly competitive. The exotic primary choices still maintain a slight edge in lethal efficiency.

However, the Werewolf does have a place punishing groups and enabling higher uptime thanks to Subsistence.

PvE Relevance

For PvE content, the Braytech Werewolf checks all the boxes:

  • Hard-hitting primary kinetic
  • Large magazine to down beefy targets
  • Useful trio of damage perks

Combined with seasonal anti-barrier auto rifle capability, it serves as a strong option for Nightfalls and raid encounters alike.

While Reed‘s Regret and other focues still output higher DPS, having a kinetic primary with champion mods helps justify the Werewolf‘s slot.

Final Verdict

Overall, the Braytech Werewolf emerges as a slightly above average auto rifle buoyed by great sustain perks. It likely won‘t dethrone Funnelweb or Outbreak Perfected as my go-to primary.

However, the rifle still carves out a niche thanks to solid combo potential from Subsistence, DSR, and Rampage. Plus I expect it will terrorize lower-tier Crucible thanks to forgiveness and flexibility.

And even if it barely leaves my vault, this savage Festival exclusive will forever commemorate the hours of effort and teamwork that finally netted the elusive Master of Disguise triumph!

Triumph Lore & Theories

Before closing, I wanted to touch briefly on some key lore implications from the Master of Disguise title. Bungie tends to bake clues and story seeds into complex quest steps like these.

A Shadowy Past

First, the gun itself – does Braytech Werewolf ring any bells? That‘s right, Braytech facilities once populated Mars before the Collapse and were known for dangerous experimental tech.

Perhaps this new rifle wasn‘t forged recently in the Last City. Maybe it‘s a relic from humanity‘s past that Eva discovered, and we‘re unearthing that dark history once again.

Deception and Secrecy

Even setting lore aside, consider the name itself – Master of Disguise. Deception through disguising one‘s identity or motives plays a major role across Destiny 2 lore.

Look no further than key figures like Savathûn, Eris Morn, the Nine, Aunor, and Calus. Each conceals truth behind false personas or glamours.

Is claiming the Werewolf a first step toward piercing those illusions? Or does donning Festival masks symbolize our willingness to hide truth through celebratory revelry?

Food for thought during those long Altars phases!

Conclusion

And there you have it – my personal guide to tackling Destiny 2‘s taxing but rewarding Master of Disguise seasonal triumph. These tips come from painful hours of testing various strategies until discovering the optimal mixtures of activities.

At times, another failed Haunted Lost Sectors run had me questioning if the effort justified some fancy new rifle model. But sharing those victories with my fireteam kept me trucking.

Destiny thrives on celebrations like the Festival of the Lost. These events bring Guardians together amidst frightening enemies and seemingly impossible quests – yielding hardened bonds and equipment forged by communal effort.

So gather your squad, stock up on Ascendant Lens, and embrace the chaos, champions! Whether we don the mask of a mysterious demigod or anenemy warrior, this is our time to leave caution behind and live brightly alongside friends.

Eyes up, Guardians – The Hunt awaits us!
