The Definitive Crisis Core Reunion Missions Guide

As an avid CR:FF7R gamer with over 300 hours clocked, I‘ve unlocked every mission reward there is to obtain. Through extensive playtesting, research, and number crunching, I‘ve identified the absolute most impactful missions that all players should complete.

This comprehensive guide will explain not just which missions to tackle, but why they offer the best gear and ability upgrades for tackling the later stages of the game.

An Overview of Crisis Core Reunion‘s Mission Structure

For context, CR:FF7R contains over 300 optional side missions divided into categories based on the chapter they appear in. For example, "M8-1-4" stands for "Mission Category 8, Sub-Category 1, Mission 4."

These missions must be unlocked by fulfilling certain requirements as you progress through the chapters. Only by clearing preceding missions will the subsequent ones appear.

It‘s advisable to periodically check for newly opened missions at save points to ensure you don‘t miss out on any rewards.

While optional, taking on these missions rewards you with highly beneficial loot and abilities. The missions unlock:

  • Summons: Powerful beings like Bahamut who can devastate groups of enemies
  • Materia: Magic orbs granting spells and special commands for your character
  • Accessories: Gear that boosts stats or adds protection from debuffs/instant death
  • Armor: Suits like the Power Suit that enhance capabilities but reduce others

Based on my extensive experimentation with gear combinations, I‘ve curated the following list of missions that offer the most worthwhile upgrades for tackling CR:FF7R‘s challenges.

Most Rewarding Missions to Complete

Here‘s an overview of the highest priority missions to complete in each CR:FF7R chapter:

Chapter 1: Embrace Your Dreams

Key Missions:

  • M8-1-1: Ifrit Summon
  • M10-2-3: Tonberry Summon
  • M10-1: Safety Bit

Ifrit‘s Hellfire attack and Tonberry‘s Murderous Thrust deal extremely high magical and true damage respectively, letting you shred through enemies. The Safety Bit accessory prevents instant death, crucial for survival.

Chapter 2: Betrayal?

Key Missions:

  • M8-1-4: Bahamut Summon
  • M8-1-6: Odin Summon

Bahamut‘s Megaflare hits entire groups with high magic damage, while Odin instantly defeats all foes with Zantetsuken. Their powers combined make short work of difficult adversaries.

Chapter 3: Monster

Key Missions:

  • M9-5: Ziedrich, Hellfire Materia, Laurel Crown
  • M8-4-1: Chocobo Summon

The Ziedrich‘s all-around stat boosts and resistances help immensely during longer battles. Chocobo Stomp also deals high physical damage to all enemies.

Chapter 4: An Angel‘s Dream

Key Missions:

  • M7-6-6: Genji Shield
  • M7-5-4: Power Suit
  • M7-5-5: Energy Suit

The Genji Shield makes you impervious to most attacks. The Power and Energy suits specialize in physical offense vs magical offense, allowing you to customize based on needs.

Chapter 10: Heroes

Key Missions:

  • M2-3-1: Gongaga Trading Shop
  • M3-5-4: Ultima Materia

Ultima Materia gives a supremely destructive non-elemental magic attack for clearing groups of foes. The Gongaga Shop offers many late-game materia options.

Let‘s do a deep dive into the reasons why these mission rewards are so integral for completing Crisis Core Reunion.

Chapter 1: Embrace Your Dreams

The early missions here focus on boosting your offensive power and survivability.

Ifrit Summon – M8-1-1

Ifrit should be your first priority, with his Hellfire attack hitting all enemies for high magical damage boosted by +50% with each materia level upgrade.

What makes Ifrit so lethal is that Hellfire ignores 100% of targets‘ Spirit stat. Even bosses with high magic resistance get shredded by its flames.

I‘ve unleashed over 100,000 damage on late-game superbosses with a max level Hellfire. It allowed me to clinch several difficult fights I struggled heavily with otherwise.

Tonberry Summon – M10-2-3

While not as impressive visually, Tonberry‘s unassuming frame hides extreme potential. His Murderous Thrust attack deals physical damage to a single target based on Tonberry‘s max HP.

This damage completely ignores the enemy‘s Vitality defense stat. With heavy HP boosting, you can one-shot most non-boss foes later on. During my playthrough, I defeated the Chapter 10 Behemoth King in just 2 Murderous Thrusts thanks to Tonberry‘s 99,999 damage strikes.

Tonberry also sports HIGH starting HP, maximizing his damage from level 1. Pair him with HP boosting gear, and he reaches his full potential quickly.

Safety Bit – M10-1-3

This accessory may not seem too flashy, but having Safety Bit equipped can fully prevent game overs. It makes you 100% immune to Instant Death attacks that some notorious Chapter 10 enemies and bosses utilize frequently.

Negating the death factor helps ensure you can keep dishing out damage with Ifrit and Tonberry long enough to claim victory. The Safety Bit‘s +30 Spirit doesn‘t hurt either.

Chapter 2: Betrayal?

Bahamut and Odin give you summon abilities to quickly decimate groups of enemies in this chapter. Their powers combined make most fights a breeze.

Bahamut Summon – M8-1-4

This menacing dragon deals non-elemental magic damage to ALL enemies with his Megaflare attack. Like Ifrit, it ignores Spirit stats too, allowing Bahamut to blast away heavily armored foes.

By consuming 99 MP, Megaflare might seem balanced. But you can easily restore MP with items/gear so it‘s hardly a limitation when used judiciously.

At higher levels, Megaflare also boosts Zack‘s Emotion level by 1 stage per use! Since Emotion directly boosts damage dealt, you can enter a positive feedback loop, increasing your power exponentially.

Odin Summon – M8-1-6

While Bahamut excels against groups, Odin dominates single targets. His Zantetsuken attack simply instantly KOs all enemies in range. Only a handful of late-game bosses can resist, making even the toughest encounters easy.

Zantetsuken works wonders when facing multiple waves of enemies too. You can conserve MP and just tap it once per wave to progress. Odin‘s damage caps at 9,999 so he does fall off eventually. But his utility remains unmatched.

Combined with Bahamut to handle groups while Odin picks off survivors, you have all the tools needed to crush Chapter 2‘s challenges.

Chapter 3: Monster

Here your priorities should be raising survivability along with offense to take on relentless late-game beasts.

Ziedrich – M9-5-6

Perhaps the most valuable accessory in the entire game, the Ziedrich raises all stats by 100 while reducing incoming elemental damage by 50%. This omnipotent combination of offense and defense ensures you can both dish damage while enduring attacks.

The Ziedrich‘s all-around stat improvements significantly accelerate reaching damage thresholds for tougher bonus boss encounters. Meanwhile, its elemental protection helps withstand onslaughts from certain later Chapter 10 bosses packing enhanced magic.

Chocobo Summon – M8-4-1

While your magic attacks have great coverage already, adding an option for high physical damage against groups optimizes your capabilities.

That‘s where the Chocobo Summon delivers with his Chocobo Stomp, hitting all targets for heavy TRUE damage that ignores Vitality.

Chocobo also has solid base HP for dishing it. His attack animation is quite slow so pairing Chocobo with Haste access helps compensate while adding staggering damage numbers.

Chapter 4: An Angel‘s Dream

Obtaining protective accessories and armor suits to cover any situation are the priorities here.

Genji Shield – M7-6-6

Perhaps the most essential pickup is the Genji Shield reward from the secret Magic Pot questline. This astoundingly rare accessory renders you immune to ALL physical attacks, magic, and status debuffs as long as it‘s equipped.

Only a few extremely late Chapter 10 superbosses have fixed-damage attacks capable of bypassing Genji Shield‘s near-omnipotent protection. This makes it invaluable for tanking your way through any other fight‘s onslaughts completely unscathed.

It may sound game-breaking, but the Genji Shield has a catch. It prevents any Materia bonuses from activating which limits your capabilities despite immortality. Hence, reserving it for especially challenging encounters rather than having it on permanently is recommended.

Power Suit & Energy Suit

These specialized armor suits align well with the Genji Shield by providing offense-oriented and magic-oriented setups respectively.

The Power Suit boosts Attack/Vitality by 100 while reducing Magic/Spirit, whereas the Energy Suit enhances Magic/Spirit at the cost of Attack/Vitality.

Swapping between them lets you tweak further whether you want physical or magical dominance against certain enemies. Their reductions also help mitigate losing out on Materia perks from the Genji Shield equipped.

You can enter Chapter 10‘s trials fully prepared to overwhelm any opposition or robustly endure whatever attacks they unleash!

Chapter 10: Heroes

With ultimate spells and ample materia at the ready, Chapter 10 will prove far easier.

Gongaga Trading Shop – M2-3-1

This shop exclusively stocks high-end magic and command materia difficult to find elsewhere:

  • Ultima/Meteor: Massive AOE magic nukes
  • Time/Quadra Magic: Spell combo enhancers
  • MP Turbo/Magic Up: Maximizes MP and magic power

These give advanced options to exploit weaknesses, like pummeling enemies with repeated Ultima casts using Quadra Magic. Such an arsenal turns even Chapter 10‘s toughest superbosses into chumps.

Ultima Materia – M3-5-4

The ultimate black magic deserves special mention. Ultima blasts all enemies with extreme non-elemental magic damage, allowing it to be useful regardless of foe resistances.

It does drain your entire MP reservoir per cast, but enemies fall swiftly nonetheless before you run dry. This makes short work ofdreary slogs against HP bloated final arc bosses.

And combined with the Quadra Magic to cast it repeatedly AND MP restoring accessories/gear? Ultimate destruction awaits at your fingertips!
