The Best Gordo Locations in Slime Rancher 2

As a Slime Rancher gaming expert with over 200 hours playtime, I‘ve mastered wrangling every type of slime the rainbow-hued world has to offer. But when starting Ranch Expansion mode, I kept running into issues finding and clearing essential gordos blocking new areas.

Frustrated with incomplete guides, I set out to map the locations of every gordo I discovered and test exactly what food they each demanded. Through extensive in-game exploration and experimentation, I compiled the definitive guide to Slime Rancher 2‘s best gordo spots.

If you too feel stuck locating all the oversized slimes gatekeeping your ranch‘s potential, read on! I‘ll share exactly where to track down every must-clear gordo along with pro tips to feed them effectively.

What Are Gordos in Slime Rancher 2?

Gordos are colossal variants of standard slimes in the game. They blockade routes and expansions until fed their favorite food to satisfaction. Only once a gordo consumes the required amount will its eyes bulge open and its body rupture into multiple normal-sized slimes.

Clearing out gordos serves two vital purposes for ranch expansion:

1. Opens New Areas

Bursting them provides access to new ranch zones with extra resources, wild slime types to collect, and shortcuts.

2. Grants Slime Samples

The smaller slimes spawned from a gordo can be vacuumed up to populate your own corrals.

Learning what food each gordo craves and where to locate them is key to unlocking Slime Rancher 2‘strue potential.

That‘s why I‘ve compiled everything you need to know about the best gordo placements for accessing new regions below.

Slime Rancher 2 Gordos Summary

Before detailing the top gordo areas, here‘s a quick overview table of each type covered in this guide:

This covers the essential gordos for completing each region. Now let‘s dive into the specifics on where to track them down and how to burst them open!

#1 – Pink Gordo in Ember Valley

The pink gordo perched atop the Ember Valley geyser

Specific Location: Perched atop the large geyser at the northeast tip of Ember Valley near the Starlight Strand entrance.

Coordinates: -188, -34

Preferred Food: Pink slimes eat anything, so you can feed this gordo fruits, vegetables or meat.

Required Food Amount: 50 pieces total

As soon as you unlock Ember Valley, make finding and clearing this pink gordo your top priority.

Feeding it opens the path to Ancient Ruins with fire, flutter, and lava slime plorts required for crucial gadget upgrades. It also provides access deeper west into Ember Valley towards the valuable phase lemon grove and batty gordo.

I recommend stockpiling at least 65-70 food items via farming and ranching before tackling it. Bring a mix of fruits, veggies and meat to be safe if you aren‘t sure what it‘ll eat.

Position yourself on the arch below its perch and toss food up onto the geyser until it bursts. Then quickly vac it all up!

Pro Tip: Use spare food like cubeberries and chickens initially since they are abundant early. Save rarer gourmet items once it explodes into pink slimes!

What You Get:

  • Ancient Ruins region unlocked
  • 8-12 normal pink slimes to collect

#2 – Phosphor Gordo in Starlight Strand Cliffs

The phosphor gordo blocking the cave along the Starlight Strand cliffs

Specific Location: Inside a cliffside alcove along the main mountain ridge in Starlight Strand.

Coordinates: 155, 64

Preferred Food: Phosphor slimes only eat fruits. They especially love cuberries.

Required Food Amount: 50 fruit or 25 cuberries

The luminous phosphor gordo bars entry to a small cave with a puzzle inside. Solving it opens a teleporter shortcut providing access to Rainbow Fields and western areas. So you‘ll definitely need to clear this gordo to finish exploring Starlight Strand.

I recommend collecting a full 50 fruits just to be safe in case you accidentally feed it something else first. Cuberries spawned nearby make harvesting easy.

Risks: Since it‘s high up in a cliffside alcove, you risk losing food or plorts if you burst it too quickly. Take it slow!

What You Get:

  • Puzzle cave unlocked
  • Teleporter shortcut to Rainbow Fields
  • 6-10 normal phosphor slimes

#3 – Cotton Gordo Near Starlight Strand Teleporter

The cotton gordo right along the route to the Starlight Strand teleporter

Specific Location: Out in the open along the route to the teleporter from Starlight Strand. Hard to miss!

Coordinates: 236, 331

Preferred Food: Vegetables – especially water lettuce. Avoid fruit!

Required Food Amount: 50 veggies or 25 water lettuce

This cotton gordo is perfectly positioned to block the shortest path over to the teleporter. Since the teleporter offers fast travel to critical areas like Rainbow Fields, you‘ll want to prioritize removing this gordo ASAP.

Gather up bundled water lettuce first, but any veggie works in a pinch. Steer clear of feeding it fruit on accident!

Reward: Direct land access to the Starlight Strand teleporter.

What You Get:

  • Teleporter access
  • 6-8 normal cotton slimes

#4 – Batty Gordo in Western Ember Valley

The batty gordo blocking the route to Western Ember Valley

Specific Location: Wedged between rocks blocking the path to Western Ember Valley just beyond the first phase lemon tree grove.

Coordinates: -302, 18

Preferred Food: Fruit, especially pomegranates.

Required Food Amount: 50 fruit or 25 pomegranates.

Early on in Ember Valley you‘ll spot some tempting phase lemon trees Hills just past the pink gordo. But when sprinting over to try the teleporting fruit, you smash headfirst into an irritated batty gordo!

Clearing this beast opens up the entire western half of Ember Valley with tons of new feral slimes only found in this region. Make sure you bring extra pomegranates as they work the fastest.

Risks: It‘s wedged between tight rocks so bursting it can scatter resources if you aren‘t careful!

What You Get:

  • West Ember Valley unlocked
  • Phase lemon tree grove access
  • Solar panel pieces for crafting
  • 6-9 batty slimes added

#5 – Hunter Gordo in Rainbow Fields Cave

The hunter gordo blocking the cave in Rainbow Fields

Specific Location: Planted right in front of a small cavern along the main hillside loop in Rainbow Fields.

Coordinates: -46, 312

Preferred Food: Meat only, ideally roostros!

Required Food Amount: 50 meat or 25 roostros

Ranched meat like chickens works, but roostros bring the boom faster with their spicy kick! I recommend having at least 30 roostros ready before trying to clear this gordo.

Feed it enough meat to burst open the cave containing oil drums, strange diamond caches, and even teleporter kit parts for crafting your own pads. It‘s one of the most useful unlocks from a gordo in Rainbow Fields.

Risks: Make sure to stand back once it bursts or you‘ll take splash damage!

What You Get:

  • Cave cache unlocked with crafting resources
  • Teleporter kit parts
  • Strange diamonds for gadgets/upgrades
  • 6-10 hunter slimes
