DnD multiclassing guide

Barbarian/Fighter – The Whirlwind Bruiser

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesKey FeatsPlaystyle
Barbarian (Path of the Beserker) 5 / Fighter (Champion) XStrength, ConstitutionGreat Weapon Master, Polearm MasterFrontline AoE Damage

The best offence is the best defence holds true when combining the raw damage potential of Barbarian with the versatility and armor training of the Fighter. Together they form a durable, martial combat tempest able to unleash frightening AoE pain while shrugging off blows and magics alike with ease.

As per community recommendations on Reddit‘s /r/BaldursGate3 subreddit, investing 5 levels into Barbarian first gains Extra Attack, Fast Movement‘s +10 speed, and the devastating Beserker subclass. Entering a frenzied Beserk state grants an extra swing per attack action alongside advantage on all strikes at the cost of 1 level of exhaustion afterwards – which pairs insanely well with Action Surge double turns from the Fighter side.

With core defining rage damage resistance, high HP from d12 hit die class and heavy armor reducing 30% physical damage intake passively, the Barbarian/Fighter simply doesn‘t die easily. Champion subclass‘s improved critical hit rate paired with Half-Orc racial Brutal Critical bonuses take this to another level, annihilating clumped up enemies with expanded threat reach from Polearm Master.

Sweeping through goblins, bandits and low armored targets with spinning great axe strikes triggers dangerous AoE fear with the Menacing Attack maneuver as well. This combination thoroughly earns its place on the list of most potent Baldur‘s Gate 3 class fusions. "Rush B, don‘t stop!"

Rogue/Ranger – The Untouchable Skirmisher

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesKey FeatsPlaystyle
Rogue (Arcane Trickster) 5 / Ranger (Gloom Stalker) XDexterity, WisdomSharpshooter, Skulker, Elven AccuracyRanged Damage, Stealth

If sitting comfortably way in the backline annihilating clumps of enemies from afar is your playstyle, Rogue/Ranger is unmatched. Combining powerful Sneak Attack backstabs with Ranger skills like Expertise, spellcasting, and subclass passives makes this an extremely deadly and hard to pin down build.

Maxing Dexterity dramatically buffs AC, initiative rolls, hit rate, skill checks and save DCs for this setup. Sharpshooter nukes compensating for the middling Sneak Attack dice progression, with Agonizing Blast invocations adding even more oompf onto Eldritch Blasts. Going Wood Elf nets you 35 base speed, darkvision, elven accuracy‘s triple advantage and mask of the wild‘s camouflage.

With Pass Without Trace, Skulker eliminating firing penalties and the Gloom Stalker invisibility buffs in first turn, you are neigh impossible to catch while devastasting from extreme distances. Cunning Action enables easy disengaging and dashing between bits of cover. So even if enemies finally reach you, Evasion and Uncanny Dodge enable easy damage mitigation while Swashbuckler‘s fancy flourish lets you re-widen gaps easily.

If the idea of an elite master ambusher ruthlessly assassinating VIPs and melting down groups from the perfect hidden vantage point appeals to you, this Rogue/Ranger build certainly delivers. "They‘ll never see it coming…"

Paladin/Sorcerer – The Magical Juggernaut

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesKey SpellsPlaystyle
Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) 6 / Sorcerer (Divine Soul) XStrength, CharismaSpirit Guardians, Spiritual Weapon, BlessMelee Burst Tank

Do you dream of raining down holy fire and thunderous smites upon demonic invading hordes while shrugging off dreadful magics and dragon‘s breath with ease? Then the iconic Paladin/Sorcerer, commonly dubbed the "Sorcadin", is your perfect match.

The Paladin side contributes extremely heavy armor, great weapon master proficieny, divine smite nova spice and advantage generation. Oath of Vengeance nets Hunter‘s Mark tracking and the absolutely vital Vow of Enmity for perma-advantage against big bad bosses. Divine Soul Sorcerer side brings extra spells known like Spirit Guardians, extends divine smite casting potential dramatically, and enables metamagic powered move combos.

With Bless and Emboldening Bond further amplifying accuracy and saving throws, you‘ll land mighty two handed smashes consistently. Quickened spell Greenflame Blade before attacks and packing more smites through converting sorcery points to slots makes this a devastating burst playstyle. Later access to Holy Weapon, Banishing Smite and Telekinesis round out the kit nicely.

Cleaving through packs of undead and demons while unleashing pure holy energy, this build captures that majestic angelic battle mage vibe perfectly. "Face divine wrath, heretics!"

Bard/Warlock – Unparalleled Support Controller

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesBest College/PactPlaystyle
Bard (Lore) 3 / Warlock (Archfey) XCharisma, DexterityEnchantment College, Pact of the ChainSupport Caster

While pure spellcasting classes have stronger late games, this iconic support multiclass comes fully online extremely quickly. Combining the skill expertise, healing words, inspiration support buffs and unlimited charm attempts of Bard with the Eldritch Blast efficiency, customizable Pact Magic spell list and at-will invocation options of the Warlock makes this combo shine.

Only a 3 level Bard dip gains Enchantment college‘s broken Hypnotic Pattern and Heat Metal spells paired with cutting words skill check penalties and inspiration dice. Archfey pact nets awesome control abilities like Fey Presence fear spam, Misty Escape teleports out of jail free cards, and the amazing Tasha‘s Hideous Laughter disable.

Guiding Bolt into Repelling Blast combo helps blow enemies into Spirit Guardian kill boxes while Find Familiar enables automatic sneak attacking and touch spell ground control trigger. Glibness and subtle spell counter disruptions should make you respected and feared. This build completely dominates the action economy, trivially stacking conditions onto dangerous targets.

If tactically manipulating entire fights by enabling your rogues, hexing silver tongued skill checks, and efficiently removing threats with limited actions sounds enjoyable, this support kit is supremely satisfying. "Dance for me marionettes, dance!"

Monk/Cleric: Avatar of Holy Retribution

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesBest DomainsPlaystyle
Monk (Shadow) X / Cleric (War) 2Dexterity, WisdomWar, TrickerySkirmishing Ninja

By fusingMonk‘s unmatched battlefield mobility with Cleric‘s protective auras and concentration power buffs, this build transforms into a hard to pin down holy guerilla warrior. Maxing Wisdom accelerates DC scaling on stunning fist attempts. Trickery domain spells like Pass Without Trace and Invisibility define this invisible scout archetype, while War domain nets vital bonus action attacks.

Monk cleric armor set

From levels 1-4, this plays like a normal Shadow Monk, stealth scouting and using bonus action teleports between attacks. After clerical dip though, you gain heavy armors, martial weapons alongside Spirit Guardians continuous AoE damage buff and Spiritual Weapon always active friend.

Combining mobility boosts like Step of the Wind dash disengage and Cunning Action hide/dash with Trickery‘s invoke duplicate and pass without trace makes you impossible to pin down. Abusing line of sight breaks with hit and run tactics combined with Darkness cheese for automatic advantage leads to triggering insane burst crit fishing attacks when the perfect opportunity strikes.

If you love hunting isolated enemies, coordinated ambushes and shedding tons of blood during brief explosive skirmishes before vanishing without a trace – this build perfectly matches that fast assassin fantasy. "You‘ll never see me coming…"

Druid/Ranger: Avatar of Primal Fury

Class CombinationRecommended AbilitiesKey SpellsPlaystyle
Druid (Moon) 2 / Ranger (Horizon Walker) XDexterity, WisdomZephyr Strike, GoodberryHigh Mobility Skirmisher

My final multiclass recommendation fuses Druidic shapeshifting power via the Circle of Moon with Ranger mobility buffs and consistent ranged damage options. Primarily played as dexterity based archer, spell selections focus on boosting action economy, accuracy and movement speed tremendously while keeping health pools topped up.

A mere two level dip into Moon Druid is huge, netting Wildshape enhanced mobility, scouting and tanking alongside a powerful always prepared base spell list containing Healing Word, Faerie Fire, Entangle and Pass Without Trace. Freelearned Cantrips like Shillelagah and Magic Stone enable SAD wisdom builds as well.

Horizon walker nets so much value as well, from ignoring difficult terrain, boosted darkvision range, defensive dodges, extra plink attacks and most crucially the virtually unlimited teleports opening up tremendous re-positioning potential mid combat for optimal damage dealing. This guerilla warfarer attacks unexpectedly from all angles before vanishing yet again after each brief assault.

If you love skirmishing playstyles with insane mobility allowing rapid map traversals supported by strong sustain tools, no better option than this primal fury infused build exists. "I am become death…"

Final Thoughts: customize and enjoy!

Hopefully this deep dive on my favorite Baldur‘s Gate 3 multiclassed builds has inspired you to experiment mixing your own fun concoctions of abilities together. Theoretically no hard and fast rule exists limiting what works together, so feel free to get creative based on your own gameplay preferences.

Just be wary overspecializing attributes too thinly or overly splitting levels as higher tier subclass features are locked behind level breakpoints. But with the tips and suggestions given here, you‘re sure unlock awesomely powerful and dynamic dual classed characters wrecking absolute havoc across the realms now!

Time to kick goblin arse as smite spewing angel or savage enemy camps as summoning primal druid. Let the glorious experimentation commence!
