Slime Rancher 2: The Top 10 Best Slimes

Slime Rancher 2 slimes

Slime Rancher 2 takes the addictive gameplay loop of collecting, ranching, and combining slimes from the original and expands it tremendously. With 18 new slimes to wrangle, each with different diets, favorite foods, plort values, and more, it can be overwhelming to decide which ones to focus on.

That‘s why I‘ve put together this guide on the top 10 best slimes in Slime Rancher 2. I‘m ranking them based on profitability, ease of care and feeding, aesthetic appeal, and how useful their plorts can be for crafting gadgets or slime science experiments.

10. Pink Slime

The iconic pink slime returns in Slime Rancher 2. As the only true omnivore in the game, pink slimes will eat any food you give them, making them highly versatile and easy to feed. Their plorts don‘t sell for much, but they‘re extremely useful for creating largos. Pair pink slimes with almost any other slime type to produce plorts with higher value than either parent slime.

Diet: Omnivore
Favorite Food: None
Plort Value: Low

9. Phosphor Slime

These glowing flying slimes produce valuable plorts. However, they do come with some extra maintenance. Phosphor slimes will disappear if left in sunlight too long, so ranch them under solar shields. Their plorts attract other nearby plorts, helping automated collectors.

Diet: Fruit
Favorite Food: Cuberry
Plort Value: Moderate

8. Honey Slime

These aptly named honey-colored slimes are very easy to ranch. Their plorts attract other plorts from further away, boosting automated collectors. Plus, their diet of fruit makes them low maintenance.

Diet: Fruit
Favorite Food: Mint Mango
Plort Value: Moderate

7. Crystal Slime

The gemstone-encrusted skin of crystal slimes makes them one of the most beautiful slimes in the game. They occasionally produce crystal spike hazards, which must be managed with water. But their high plort value makes the extra effort worthwhile.

Diet: Vegetable
Favorite Food: Odd Onion
Plort Value: High

6. Hunter Slime

The camouflage skin and banded eyes of the hunter slime give it a special forces vibe. These meat-loving slimes can spot food from farther away than others, making feeding simple. However, any largos created with hunter plorts turn feral and aggressive. A taming bell gadget returns them to normal.

Diet: Meat
Favorite Food: Roostro
Plort Value: Moderate

5. Gold Slime

Extremely rare and skittish, gold slimes produce the most valuable plorts in Slime Rancher 2. Track down their favorite food (gilded ginger) to feed them before they disappear. Each gold plort earned is worth the effort spent chasing these elusive creatures.

Diet: Gilded Ginger
Favorite Food: Gilded Ginger
Plort Value: Very High

4. Lucky Slime

These aptly named slimes randomly appear on the ranch with a telltale jingling sound. Quickly track them down and feed them any meat before they disappear. Instead of producing plorts, lucky slimes directly award newbucks based on how quickly you managed to feed them.

Diet: Meat
Favorite Food: N/A
Profit: Direct Money Reward

3. Fire Slime

The blazing fire slime might seem too hot to handle, but with the right upgrades they become very profitable. Built an ash trough with incinerator links to safely contain them. Feed them ash for valuable red and orange fire plorts. Their matching largo burns up excess plorts!

Diet: Ash
Favorite Food: N/A
Plort Value: Very High

2. Quantum Slime

Only seasoned slime ranchers should attempt wrangling quantums. These bizarre slimes teleport anywhere on the ranch when agitated…which is often. But their sparkly plorts are extremely valuable and useful for crafting gadgets. With patience and practice, profits will teleport into your pockets.

Diet: Vegetable
Favorite Food: Briar Hens
Plort Value: Very High

1. Tarr

Surprised? Let me explain. Tarrs are formed when a largo eats a 3rd type of plort, causing them to turn into a hungry black tar-like slime. Normally they must be eliminated before they devour other slimes and escape.

However, with the right set up, tarrs can be "ranched" just like other slimes by feeding them whatever slimes they can reach from inside a corral. Collect their plorts and let them consume the excess to keep their population in check! It‘s risky but highly profitable.

Diet: Other Slimes
Favorite Food: Plorts
Plort Value: Extremely High!

Honorable Mentions

While not quite top 10 material, the following three slimes deserve some recognition:

Cotton Slime: These cute fluffy slimes produce the valuable cotton plort needed for crafting gadgets.

Angler Slime: Slimes with built in fishing poles that can stun you. Cool!

Batty Slime: Their vampiric aesthetic and burst of red plort from eating pomegranates is simply awesome.

So that‘s my list of the top 10 best slimes in Slime Rancher 2! Let me know your favorites. Happy ranching!
