The recently released Resident Evil 4 Remake has taken the gaming world by storm, improving upon the classic original with updated graphics, expanded gameplay, and new content. One often-overlooked addition that has received little coverage so far are the Merchant Requests – special side quests that reward players with valuable items for completing various tasks.

What are Merchant Requests?
Merchant Requests function as side quests separate from the main story campaign. Scattered throughout various chapters, players can find request pages pinned to walls near Merchants that detail special tasks Leon can take on.
Completing a request consists of three steps:
- Finding the request page
- Fulfilling the given objective
- Returning to the Merchant who will then reward the player with Spinels
Spinels are rare gems that can be exchanged with the Merchant for special weapons, weapon upgrades, treasures maps, and various supplies. They are extremely valuable, making merchant requests well worth completing.
In total there are 19 merchant requests in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, with each providing unique objectives such as hunting animals, destroying property, or defeating powerful foes. Completing all 19 requests earns the Jack Of All Trades achievement/trophy.
Merchant Request Rewards
The main reward for finishing a merchant request is a set number of Spinels as listed below:
- Destroy the Blue Medallions (x3 requests) – Reward is 3-5 Spinels
- Pest Control (x3 requests) – Reward is 3-4 Spinels
- Viper Hunt – Reward is 4 Spinels
- Egg Hunt – Reward is 3 Spinels
- Catch Me a Big Fish – Reward is 4 Spinels
- A Savage Mutt – Reward is 8 Spinels
- Merciless Knight – Reward is 8 Spinels
- Insect Hive – Reward is 4 Spinels
- Jewel Thief – Reward is 3 Spinels
- The Disgrace of the Salazar Family – Reward is 4 Spinels
- The Wandering Dead – Reward is 8 Spinels
As you can see, rewards range from 3-8 Spinels depending on the difficulty of the task.

Merchant requests are found pinned close to Merchant locations in the following chapters:
- Chapter 1: 1 Request
- Chapter 2: 1 Request
- Chapter 3: 3 Requests
- Chapter 4: 2 Requests

- Chapter 7: 1 Request
- Chapter 9: 2 Requests
- Chapter 10: 2 Requests

There are no merchant requests found in Chapters 6, 8, 13, and 16.

Destroy the Blue Medallions 1 (Chapter 1)
Objective: Destroy 5 Blue Medallions hidden around the Village (Farm area)
Location: The request is pinned on a wall next to a locked gate near the windmill at the Farm.
Strategy: If you are having trouble locating all 5 medallions, refer to our Blue Medallions Location Guide. Use any weapon to destroy them then speak to a Merchant to complete the request.
Reward: 3 Spinels
Pest Control (Chapter 2)
Objective: Eliminate 3 rats inside the Abandoned House
Location: The request page is posted on the wall next to the Merchant located outside the Abandoned House.
Strategy: The rats can be found roaming around in the corners inside the house. Kill all 3 with your knife or a gun then exit the house and talk to the Merchant near the request page to finish this quick exterminating job.
Reward: 3 Spinels
Viper Hunt (Chapter 3)
Objective: Hunt down and kill 3 Vipers
Location: The request is posted on the wall beside an outdoor Merchant shop near the Town Hall.
Strategy: The Vipers can spawn randomly around the Town Hall or Fish Farm area. Listen for their distinct rattle sound to locate them. Kill 3 with knives or bullets then sell them directly to the Merchant.
Reward: 4 Spinels
Grave Robber (Chapter 3)
Objective: Destroy the engraved emblems on two specific tombstones
Location: Found posted behind the Church, around the corner from the cemetery.
Strategy: Enter the graveyard and look for two tombstones placed next to each other near the center. Shoot the emblems until they break off to complete the request.
Reward: 2 Spinels
Destroy the Blue Medallions 2 (Chapter 3)
Objective: Destroy 5 Blue Medallions in the Quarry
Location: The request is posted on a wall at the Quarry Entrance, before crossing the railroad tracks.
Strategy: Refer to our Guide on Blue Medallion Locations if you have trouble finding all 5 medals in and around the Quarry. Once destroyed, speak to any Merchant to complete the request.
Reward: 4 Spinels
Egg Hunt (Chapter 4)
Objective: Retrieve a rare Gold Chicken Egg
Location: Exit the Mural Cave leading to the Lake Shore and the request will be pinned to the wall on your right side.
Strategy: Travel east of the Lake Shore to a small enclosed area with lots of chickens roaming inside. Look on the ground for the Gold Chicken Egg and pick it up, then sell it to a Merchant.
Reward: 3 Spinels
Catch Me A Big Fish (Chapter 4)
Objective: Catch the legendary Lunker Bass fish in the lake
Location: After unlocking the Insignia Door near the Lake Shore, the request is inside posted on the wall.
Strategy: Equip your Harpoon and fish off the docks at the Boathouse until you hook the unique large Lunker Bass. Reel it in, pick it up, then sell it to the Merchant. Make sure you have room in your inventory to collect it after catching.
Reward: 4 Spinels
A Savage Mutt (Chapter 5)
Objective: Hunt a unique savage infected dog wandering the Village area
Location: Posted on the wall outside the Town Hall, next to the Merchant‘s shop.
Strategy: First enter the Village Chief‘s House and have Ashley boost you up into the Attic to trigger the dog‘s spawn. Return to the Village Square and prepare to battle the powerful Savage Mutt enemy. Defeating it completes the request.
Reward: 8 Spinels
Destroy the Blue Medallions 3 (Chapter 7)
Objective: Destroy 6 Blue Medallions scattered around Castle Gate area
Location: A request page posted atop a pillar next to a large locked door requiring a cannon to open.
Strategy: Refer to our guide on Blue Medallion locations to help find all 6 medals hidden within the Castle Gate grounds and architecture. Destroy them then speak to any Merchant.
Reward: 5 Spinels
Destroy the Blue Medallions 4 (Chapter 9)
Objective: Eliminate 6 Blue Medallions inside the castle‘s Grand Hall
Location: The request page sits atop a table inside the Merchant‘s room attached to the Grand Hall.
Strategy: Utilize our handy guide on Blue Medallion locations to track down all 6 medals placed around the Grand Hall. Shoot them then return to the Merchant for your reward.
Reward: 5 Spinels
More Pest Control (Chapters 9-10)
Objective: Dispose of 3 infected rats roaming around the castle
Location: Posted on the wall beside a statue in the Grand Hall, near the entrance to the Dining Room.
Strategy: One rat can be found patrolling the Dining Hall, another in the Armory Hallway, and the third spawns in a hallway near the castle‘s Library in Chapter 10. Exterminate all 3 rats then speak to the Merchant.
Reward: 3 Spinels
Merciless Knight (Chapter 10)
Objective: Defeat the Merciless Knight and his two followers
Location: The request sits on a desk before entering the Library in the Grand Hall.
Strategy: Prepare for a tough fight as you enter the Mausoleum against the unique armored Merciless Knight and his two cultist followers. Use powerful weapons and quick reflexes to take them down, then inform the Merchant.
Reward: 8 Spinels
Insect Hive (Chapter 11)
Objective: Destroy all 4 Insect Hive entrances scattered around
Location: Travel east when you first enter the Hive Grounds and look atop a large wooden platform.
Strategy: Keep an eye on the ceilings to spot the yellow glowing hive entrances. Shoot them until they break to prevent insect swarms from massing. Once all 4 hives are destroyed, the request is complete.
Reward: 4 Spinels
Jewel Thief (Chapter 12)
Objective: Retrieve a family jewel stolen by a crow
Location: Posted on the wall beside the elevator when first entering the Ballroom.
Strategy: Head west to the Courtyard and spot the crow‘s nest resting on a ruined balcony. Fire at it until the Scratched Emerald gem drops down, then collect it and sell it to the nearby Merchant shop to complete the request.
Reward: 3 Spinels
The Disgrace of the Salazar Family (Chapter 12)
Objective: Deface Lord Salazar‘s distinguished portrait
Location: Posted on the same wall as the Jewel Thief request near the Ballroom elevators.
Strategy: Enter the Throne Room to the east and collect a Golden Chicken Egg from the shrine. Next locate Salazar‘s portrait hanging in the same room and throw the egg at it, leaving a messy splatter behind.
Reward: 4 Spinels
Destroy the Blue Medallions 5 (Chapter 14)
Objective: Eliminate 5 Blue Medallions hidden around the Facility Grounds
Location: Posted on a wall right outside the Merchant‘s room at the Facility Storage.
Strategy: Once again make use of our Blue Medallion location guide to seek and destroy the 5 medals spread around the Facility. Report back to the Merchant afterwards.
Reward: 5 Spinels
Even More Pest Control (Chapter 14)
Objective: Clear out 4 infected rats from the Waste Disposal site
Location: Found resting on machinery platform just past the Merchant in Waste Disposal area.
Strategy: Four pesky rats have infested around Waste Disposal and need exterminated. Check our Pest Control Guide for exact spawn points. Put them down then speak to Merchant to finish request.
Reward: 3 Spinels
The Wandering Dead (Chapter 14)
Objective: Put down the Strange Corpse enemy
Location: After the cutscene in Facility Storage of Ashley using the wrecking ball, check a nearby crate for this request.
Strategy: This tough mutated undead foe lurks by the Incubation Lab to the east. Prepare your strongest long range weapons and aim for its head to take it out and complete the request.
Reward: 8 Spinels
Destroy the Blue Medallions 6 (Chapter 15)
Objective: Obliterate 5 Blue Medallions located on the Island
Location: Posted on a wall by the exit leading out from the Cliffside Ruins zone.

Completing All Requests – Jack Of All Trades
Successfully finishing all 19 Merchant Requests earns players the Jack Of All Trades silver trophy/achievement as the final reward. With enough Spinels also earned from each request, Leon will be well equipped to tackle the dangers ahead!
