Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – Mastering the Prized Pelts Meta

As a passionate Monster Hunter gamer with hundreds of hours invested into the Rise and Sunbreak installments, I‘ve become intimately familiar with the ins-and-outs of crafting top-tier builds. With the launch of Sunbreak, Capcom introduced an exciting new rare resource – the Prized Pelt.

Prized Pelts have quickly become a cornerstone for crafting some of the best Master Rank armor sets. Obtaining them efficiently is key to excelling against Sunbreak‘s formidable roster of monsters. This comprehensive guide contains all my tips and secrets for farming Prized Pelts.

What Are Prized Pelts?

Prized Pelts are a brand new rare material introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. They can only be acquired by hunting small creatures known as Kelbi and Anteka specifically on Master Rank quests.

Prized Pelts carry a low carve drop rate, but are essential for crafting late game Sunbreak armor sets like:

  • Khezu Coil X
  • Lagombi Helm X
  • Kadachi Greaves X
  • Bone Vambraces X
  • Leather Headgear X

Many contain beneficial armor skills tailored towards Master Rank hunters.

I‘ve compiled some key stats to understand about Prized Pelts:

CreatureDrop RateLocations
Kelbi30% CarveShrine Ruins, Sandy Plains, Flooded Forest, Jungle
Anteka18% CarveFrost Islands

With drop rates this low, farming enough Prized Pelts quickly can be an arduous process. As a passionate Sunbreak gamer, I‘ve experimented extensively to determine optimal strategies.

How To Effectively Farm Prized Pelts

While Prized Pelts can drop from both Kelbi and Anteka, Kelbi provide nearly double the chances per carve at 30%. Through my testing, Kelbi have proven to be the superior creature to hunt.

Step 1: Start a Master Rank Expedition

I highly recommend launching an expedition over event quests or assignments. With no time limits, you can freely farm Kelbi for extended periods.

Step 2: Hunt Kelbi in the Shrine Ruins

The icy Shrine Ruins contain the densest Kelbi spawns based on my own investigations. Teleport to Areas 11, 12 or 13 via camps for quick access to 5-6 Kelbi per zone.

Step 3: Use Ranged Weapons to Improve Efficiency

A critical technique I employ is equipping a bow or light bowgun when farming Kelbi. Since Kelbi will immediately flee when attacked, ranged weapons allow easy kills before they escape.

Step 4: Prioritize Carving Bodies

This should go without saying, but ALWAYS carve the Kelbi corpses after defeating them! Each carve provides chances for additional Prized Pelts along with Kelbi Horns which are used to craft special equipment.

Step 5: Repeat and Maximize Runtime

Teleport back and forth between camps in the Shrine Ruins to refresh Kelbi spawn points. With no time limits on Expeditions, you can continuously farm for 2+ hours straight. I average around 20-30 Prized Pelts per lengthy session.

Supplementing With Hunting Anteka

For hunters needing even more Prized Pelts beyond dedicated Kelbi farming, the hulking Anteka provides an alternative (but slower) source:

  • Locate Anteka: Found only in Sunbreak‘s Frost Islands locale
  • Carve Chance: 18% chance per carve (compared to Kelbi‘s 30%)

Use the same Expedition strategy allowing unlimited hunting time. But temper expectations with nearly half the drop rate compared to Kelbi. I view Anteka as more of a supplemental source for when I‘ve exhausted all Kelbi.

Crafting Top Weapons and Armor With Prized Pelts

With Sunbreak introducing dangerous new Apex monsters and Afflicted creature variants, having properly optimized equipment is more critical than ever.

Many of the best armor pieces and Buddy equipment require hefty amounts of Prized Pelts to forge.

Here‘s a partial list:

Armor

  • Lagombi Helm X – Frost Exploit, Quick Sheath, Evade Extender
  • Kadachi Greaves X – Constitution, Evade Extender
  • Hunter‘s Helm X – Critical Eye, Speed Sharpening
  • Bone Vambraces X – bow charge plus, refresh dash juice

Buddy Equipment

  • Fanatic Cat Ears – Torso Up, Good Luck
  • Palarang – Health Grinder
  • Blast Meowlotov Cocktail – Bombardier

When grinding Prized Pelts, always keep the awesome gear you can craft in mind. This will motivate you through the hours of farming Kelbi!

Closing Thoughts on Mastering Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

While the Prized Pelt drop rates start out daunting early in Sunbreak, committing some time to repeatedly hunt and carve Kelbi pays major dividends.

You‘ll accumulate plenty of vital Prized Pelts to craft outstanding late game armor sets granting game-changing bonuses tailored towards Master Rank hunts. Paired with fully upgraded Sunbreak weapons, you transform into an unstoppable force.

I wish all hunters the best of luck in your Prized Pelt farming adventures. And as always, stay alert out there against the deadly monsters roaming the Shrine Ruins!
