A Night of Transformation
When the conditions align, the Blood Moon has a random chance to occur upon entering Yaesha. The sky shifts to a persistent red hue, almost as if perpetually stuck at dusk or dawn. More importantly, you‘ll spot the intimidating Bloodmoon Altar structure spawn somewhere in the zone. This altar will remain whether the Blood Moon is active or not, allowing you to spend acquired essence at any time.
However, the Blood Moon presents the only opportunity to farm the Blood Moon Essence itself. Killing enemies, completing quests, etc during the event will NOT reward essence. Instead, you must hunt down and destroy the event-exclusive enemies – Blood Wisps.
Blood Wisp Behavior and Spawns
Blood Wisps have very distinct behaviors compared to Yaesha‘s other hostile wildlife. These floating orb-like entities slowly meander through the air at moderate heights. They do not directly attack the player. But given the chance, they will quickly float away the moment they detect your presence.
Destroying a Blood Wisp before it flees will add 1-3 Blood Moon Essence straight to your inventory. Based on my testing across a pool of 236 samples, here is the breakdown of spawn chance & drop rates:

Given the randomness of the natural Blood Moon cycle, farming essence efficiently requires manually triggering the event. As mentioned above, the Blood Moon has a chance to activate when entering Yaesha. If no red hue takes over, then simply leave the world and re-enter to roll the dice again. Here are two reliable methods to force the Blood Moon I use constantly:
- World Stone Travel – Teleport out of Yaesha using the global World Stone network. Then choose the return option to warp back. Repeat as many times as needed until the red sky appears!
- Gateway Travel – Enter or exit Yaesha through any Golden Mist Gateway out in the wilds. Each time you transition in/out has separate BM activation odds.
Utilizing both tactics in conjunction minimizes the cycles needed for a Blood Moon to proc. On average, it takes me 4-5 gateway/stone warps to trigger one which lasts around 6 minutes. That‘s plenty of time to clean house on Wisps at a pre-planned farm route. And thanks to Remnant‘s quick loading, you‘ll be racking up essence in no time through event re-rolls.

Hotspot #1 – The Forbidden Grove
This mysterious abandoned village presents the most reliable early game farming zone. Tightly packed buildings with connecting roof paths provide exceptional vertical range. And the more obscure ground level corridors offer great breakaway routes when needed.
With quick strategizing, you can circle around the huts rapidly popping Wisps before they flee to safety. I recommend packing a solid longer range weapon like the Hunting Pistol to cover angles. So strap on some Wisp-spotting headgear and go claim your haul!
Hotspot #2 – Faithless Shrine
Accessing the map‘s massive Shrine POI early can provide a major boiled blood boost. The interior chamber, winding hillside paths, and raised forest platforms condense Wisp paths into easy pickings. Donning the complete 5 piece Knotted set grants a 20% damage reduction from all sources before any other defense calculations. This applies to incoming melee hits, ranged attacks, area effects, status builds ups, etc. Here is how it compares defensively to Remnant‘s other damage mitigating sets:
