Fallout 4: My Comprehensive Guide to Cashing in Your Loot

As a passionate Fallout 4 player with over 250 hours under my pip-boy, I‘ve learned the best tricks for selling excess loot scattered around post-apocalyptic Boston.

There‘s no worse feeling than overburdening yourself with weapons and chems you can’t use. Rather than tossing valuable caps to the wayside, I’m sharing merchant info to help fellow dwellers maximize profits!

Why Selling Your Loot Wisely Matters

First, let’s cover why wisely selling goods at certain merchants matters:

Earn More Caps: Vendors offer varying prices, so shopping around is vital to scoring the best deals. Even a few extra caps per sale adds up over hours of looting.

Free Up Weight: Weapons and drugs weigh a lot, so clearing them out is crucial for extended loot runs. I’ve spent too long moments waddling between locations while overencumbered.

Establish Connections: Developing rapport with select merchants gives you an “in” for rare restocks of powerful gear for sale.

So rather than randomly dumping gear, establish a route of key merchants to build connections and reliable income.

Tips for Scoring More Caps on Sales

Before visiting any shops, use these tips to maximize sale profits:

Grape Mentats boost charisma +5 for better prices. I always pop one before selling my piles of loot.

Charisma Gear like fashionable glasses gives +1 or +2 charisma to charm merchants.

Cap Collector requires leveling up, but boosts buying/selling prices significantly. By level 50 with Cap Collector 2, most merchants gained about 40% more caps for me.

Best Merchants in Diamond City

In the hub of Diamond City, you’ll find merchants specializing in different wares. Here are my go-to vendors:

Diamond City Vendors

Myrna at Commonwealth Weaponry has a sizeable ammo stock for sales and purchases. At max charisma and grape mentats combined, Myrna once gave me nearly 600 caps for surplus .45 rounds! She carries around 350 caps normally. Unfortunately her shop closes at 8 PM sharp most nights.

Arturo Rodriguez offers decent resale rates on looted pipe pistols and melee weapons, about 60% of their value. His Rodriguez Arms shop is conveniently next to Myrna as well. With four charisma, I’ve sold him nearly 1000 caps worth gear at once! His roughly 400 cap stash gets depleted quickly though.

Doctor Sun runs the Diamond City Surplus chem shop with a whopping 700 caps available with minimal charisma! Unload excess buffout, med-x and other chems at half their full value to Sun. His huge inventory here also lets you buy urgently needed stimpaks and rad drugs.

Solomon sadly doesn’t get much business at his Dugout Inn side shop Chem-I-Care. Despite a tiny shop floorspace, Solomon keeps nearly 350 caps onhand specifically for chems and food. I sell excess alcohol and pre-war food here after trading with Sun. Visiting Solomon helps balance prices across Diamond City while earning you an extra 150 caps or so.

Goodneighbor‘s Secret Stashes

Goodneighbor may seem seedy, but some rare merchant gems hide behind its walls. Here‘s where to sell your excess goods:

Goodneighbor Vendors

Daisy at Daisy‘s Discounts offers decent resale rates around 60% value on ammo and loosely organized gear. Despite a seemingly small shop, Daisy carried nearly 550 caps for me fully boosted! She‘s great for clearing general loot, although navigating her cluttered shelves can be cumbersome.

KL-E-0 is my personal favorite for energy weapons and higher tier guns like plasma and gauss rifles. Her "Kill or Be Killed" gun shop lives up to its name – I once saw KL-E-0 obliterate a rival caravan group in minutes! Anyways, her shop carries around 400 caps baseline for your energy armaments and grenades. Rumor is KL-E-0 may secretly be a former assassin robot…

Fred Allen operates a humble chem lab inside the upper floor of the Hotel Rexford. He generally stocks lots of alcohol and addictol for hotel patrons it seems. Fred has purchased 200+ caps worth of chems in one sale for me though. Visit him after trading with Daisy downstairs to score a few extra caps.

The Elusive Cambridge Scribe

While assisting Paladin Danse‘s recon squad at Cambridge Police Station, you can meet the legendary Scribe merchant who stops by occasionally from later voyages.

Cambridge Scribe

This mysterious Scribe merchant specializes in armor and power armor parts for both sale and purchase. I recommend traveling to Cambridge Police Station routinely to check if she has arrived. When in stock, I‘ve sold 400+ caps worth of Raider power armor pieces I wouldn‘t use otherwise. Plan to visit her shop intermittently between other major merchants on your route.

You can also build a Weapons Workbench settlement like Red Rocket Truck Stop to trigger the Scribe merchant‘s arrival there too. Constructing merchant stands helps centralize your Trading Empire‘s operations, as I like to call it.

Deb’s Potions at Bunker Hill

Many caravan travelers visiting Bunker Hill also know Deb‘s famous chem stand.

Deb's Chem Stand

Despite what the name implies, Deb specializes exclusively in purchasing chems at modest rates. Still, combined with low charisma, I‘ve scored nearly 300 caps from Deb quickly selling leftover psycho, jet and buffjet from Raider loot runs.

Deb doesn‘t carry much caps – usually just over 100. Visiting her stand should supplement trips to dealers in Goodneighbor or Diamond City. Her tiny stand can‘t compete with major operations, but it‘s conveniently placed for merchants traversing northwest of Boston proper.

All Aboard the Prydwen

Once earning the Brotherhood of Steel‘s trust, you gain access to their legendary airship Prydwen hosting special vendors and valuable services for knights.

Prydwen Vendors

Proctor Teagan serves as the official quartermaster for the entire East Coast division of the Brotherhood of Steel. His inventory and available caps reflects this importance, maintaining over 1300 caps at my highest charisma!

As one of the most powerful merchants around, Teagan ensures his Prydwen forces stay well equipped. I routinely sell excess ammo, chems and gear to Teagan after exploring downtown Boston and the Glowing Sea. Having a direct line to the Brotherhood through Teagan will also get you rare restocks of vertibird signal grenades, mini nukes and more!

Hidden Merchants Across the Commonwealth

Beyond major towns, keep an eye out for opportunistic merchants traveling the Commonwealth‘s dangerous roads. Don‘t underestimate these travelers!

Vault 81 merchants like Alexis Combes surprise me with their vast chem and crafting inventories. Despite living isolated underground, Vault 81 dwellers amassed large surplus stockpiles somehow.

Trashcan Carla is my favorite wandering merchant in the northern Commonwealth area. Despite the name, Carla carries tons of general ammo I regularly need like shotgun shells and fusion cells. She also buys chems and equipment worth 100+ caps during trades.

Several human settlers and Mr Handy robot provisioners roam between settlements offering modest goods. I provide these wandering traders excess purified water and vegetables to build connections across the region. Having dispersed traders saves me dangerous trips lugging equipment between communities.

Where Are You Hawking Your Loot?

After 100 hours exploring Fallout 4‘s Boston ruins and establishing thriving settlements, I‘ve uncovered excellent merchants who generously purchase all sorts of loot. No more overburdening miles into quests or wasting valuable caps ever again!

What other standout merchants have you uncovered? Let me know your preferred locations and shopkeepers for selling loot at great prices!
