Elden Ring: The Ultimate Sword of Night and Flame Build

The Sword of Night and Flame is one of the most powerful and versatile weapons in Elden Ring. With the ability to unleash both magical and fire damage, this sword makes for an extremely potent battle mage build. In this guide, I‘ll walk you through creating the ultimate build to maximize the potential of this unique weapon.

Overview

Here are the key components of the build:

  • Weapon: Sword of Night and Flame +10
  • Staff: Carian Regal Scepter +10
  • Spells: Comet Azur, Adula‘s Moonblade, Stars of Ruin
  • Armor: Raptor‘s Black Feathers armor set
  • Talismans: Magic Scorpion Charm, Graven-Mass Talisman, Radagon Icon, Ritual Sword Talisman

The goal is to boost sorcery damage as much as possible while still having enough health, endurance and equipment load to wield the sword and staff effectively. You‘ll be a glass cannon – extremely high damage output but somewhat fragile if hit.

Proper spacing and intelligent use of ranged attacks and spells is key. You dictate the flow of battle with your versatile moveset. Get in close to unleash flames, keep away to bombard with ranged sorceries, use the sword‘s unique skill to unleash both in a devastating combo.

Stats

Here are the final stats to shoot for at level 150:

Vigor: 35-40

Mind: 35-40

Endurance: 20

Strength: 16 (base requirement for Sword of Night and Flame)

Dexterity: 14 (base requirement for Sword of Night and Flame)

Intelligence: 80

Faith: 24

Arcane: 7 (for dragon sorceries)

With 80 Intelligence and boosting equipment like the Magic Scorpion Charm, your sorceries will hit brutally hard. 24 Faith meets the requirement to wield the sword.

I aimed for 35-40 Vigor and Mind for decent health and FP pools. You‘ll burn through a lot of FP with this build so Mind is very important. 20 Endurance provides enough equip load for good armor while still medium rolling. Damage stats were prioritized over other areas.

Weapons

The unique skill of the Sword of Night and Flame lets you unleash a powerful wave of magic or fire with the stance. Enemies resistant to one type will still take heavy damage from the other. At +10 with great Intelligence, it shreds through enemies.

As a side arm, the Carian Regal Scepter provides boosts to sorcery damage, scaling well all the way to +10 with Intelligence. The sword alone is enough for close quarters combat if needed so the scepter mainly functions as a high-powered magic wand.

With your Intelligence and damage boosting equipment, even your quick sorcery attacks from the Carian Regal Scepter hit with huge force. Enemies that survive your dual magic/fire waves from the Sword of Night and Flame won‘t like the hard-hitting spells you fling as back up.

Spells

The sword itself provides excellent magic and fire damage, so the spells you add to your repertoire should offer even more elemental destruction:

  • Comet Azur: High FP cost but absurd damage potential. Devastating beam of raw sorcery power when you can create an opening, often capable of deleting bosses outright.

  • Adula‘s Moonblade: Fires a frosty scythe-like projectile that does heavy magic damage and builds frost status as well. Great ranged poke.

  • Stars of Ruin: Barrages foes with successive homing magic blasts. Excellent at pressuring dodgy opponents at mid-range.

Rounding these out with other potent Intelligence-scaling sorceries like Loretta‘s Greatbow or Founding Rain of Stars provides you with answers to any situation. Both long range sniping and close quarters bombardment are covered with all that magic firepower.

Armor

While it may look sinister, the Raptor‘s Black Feathers armor set provides excellent magical damage negation along with decent overall damage absorption. Crucially, it‘s lightweight enough to stay under 70% equip load with your weapons and talismans equipped.

The cloth parts hint at its magical protections. Without heavy physical defense, smart positioning is key. Let ranged attacks and spells pick away at groups while you isolate dangerous melee enemies and shred them safely with the flames and magic beaming from your sword.

If you prefer heavier armor, Lionel‘s Set or other very heavy armors can work if you invest several points into Endurance. However, you lose damage potential that way.

Talismans

Four talismans round out your build for even more damage and versatility:

  • Magic Scorpion Charm: Boosts all magic damage by 20%. Fantastic with your overwhelming magic and elemental damage potential.

  • Graven-Mass Talisman: Increases sorcery damage by 12%. It stacks with the Magic Scorpion Charm for +32% total magic attack power.

  • Radagon Icon: Lowers skill FP cost and decreases sorcery casting time, both very useful.

  • Ritual Sword Talisman: Another +10% magic buff when HP is at full. Swap this out if you feel too fragile for even more health.

If you want to use dragon sorceries like Agheel‘s Flame, swap out Radagon Icon for the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for 15% increased fire damage.

Playstyle

Your extreme versatility coupled with devastating magic/fire damage potential necessitates an adaptive playstyle. Every new enemy and boss will test your skill in managing ranged elemental attacks versus close-quarters dualsword skills.

Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each foe. Use your ranged sorceries to test their ability to close distance and withstand either your magic or fire damage from the sword.

Once you identify any deficiencies, put pressure on them relentlessly. Overwhelm fire-weak enemies with the flaming sword stance while pelting magic-vulnerable targets with Adula‘s Moonblade from afar.

Extreme burst potential with Comet Azur allows you to capitalize on any posture breaks as well. While slow to attack, the beam will melt most enemies foolish enough to leave themselves open.

Patience and proper spacing remains crucial at all times however. Attacks that crush your below average vigor means it‘s often better to whittle down enemies slowly rather than attempt risky melee gambits.

Your tools allow you to control combat at both close and long range. Intelligent positioning coupled with relentless offense will see you through to victory again and again. If you want to play with godslaying power, this build has it in spades.
