Destiny 2: The Complete Guide to Forging Redrix‘s Broadsword

Forged in blood, sweat, and tears – this is the monumental journey every Destiny 2 player must embark on to claim the lethal Redrix‘s Broadsword pulse rifle from Lord Shaxx. This comprehensive 3000 word guide will be your trusty companion covering everything you need to finally wrap your hands around this coveted weapon.

Destiny 2 Crucible

Prerequisites

Let‘s start by ensuring you meet the base requirements to even begin the "Forging the Broadsword" pursuit:

  • Ownership of Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion
  • Character level 50
  • Acquire theBroadsword quest pursuit from Lord Shaxx

I highly recommend having a few meta weapons and armor builds ready that synergize well for Crucible play too. Once you talk to Shaxx and have the ball rolling, the real grind starts.

Overview of the Quest Steps

Brace yourself guardian, this is easily one of the longest quest chains in Destiny 2. Here‘s a high-level overview of objectives:

  • Get 200 Pulse Rifle final blow kills
  • Hit Valor rank "Heroic" through Crucible matches
  • Earn 75 Double Play medals (rapid 2 kills with pulse rifle)
  • Score 150 precision final blows with pulse rifles
  • Complete 25 Rumble Matches
  • Complete 25 Survival Matches
  • Complete 25 Control Matches
  • Reset Valor rank 5 times in a single season

It‘s that last one that really stings…but we‘ll get through it together! Let‘s break it down step-by-step:

Step 1: 200 Pulse Rifle Final Blows

Kicking things off with a straight forward kill grind – defeat 200 opponents with pulse rifle final blows in the Crucible.

Recommended Weapons:

  • Bygones
  • Outlast
  • Blast Furnace
  • Go Figure
  • Graviton Lance (exotic)

I‘d highly advise using pulse rifles with high stability and aim assist/target acquisition. Graviton Lance served me well here with its exotic perk helping secure kills.

Strategy: Play Rumble matches as you can more easily rack up final blows without teammates stealing kills. I averaged around 8-12 pulse rifle defeats per game, so expect ~20 matches depending on skill level. Stick to longer lanes on the outside of maps.

Estimated Time: 3 hours

Step 2: Hit Valor Rank "Heroic"

Next you‘ll need to continue playing Crucible matches across different modes until you achieve a Valor rank of "Heroic".

Quick background – Valor is a ranking system counting up indefinitely as you complete matches. Ranks apply account-wide and reset each season. There are 5 main ranks:

  • Guardian
  • Brave
  • Heroic
  • Fabled
  • Mythic
  • Legend

When starting from 0 Valor, you typically hit Heroic rank around the 1200 – 1500 Valor points threshold.

Recommended Loadout:

  • Masterworked Weapons – generate orbs
  • Super mods – faster super regen
  • Crucible Prosperity Armor Mods from Ada-1

Strategy: Play with a full fireteam for maximum win rate and coordination. Make sure to grab Crucible bounties from Shaxx using pulse rifles – lots of extra Valor!

Estimated Matches: ~100 games across all modes
Estimated Time: 15 hours

Step 3: 75 Double Play Medals

This next objective was particularly brutal requiring double-kill rapidness with your pulse. Equip your favorite high damage pulse and start chaining kills.

Weapons I Used:

  • Redrix‘s Broadsword (after completing the quest)
  • Blast Furnace
  • Go Figure

Strategy: Play conservatively around the edges of the map until you have allies engaged with enemies, then clean up damaged opponents for double downs. Be patient lining up shots rather than firing erratically.

Estimated Matches: ~80 games
Estimated Time: 16 hours

Step 4: 150 Precision Pulse Rifle Kills

Straight forward but time consuming requiring 150 headshot kills with pulse rifles.

Weapons:

  • Any Low RPM (450) or High Impact Frame pulse with high aim assist + target acquisition
  • Bygones – excellent stability

Strategy: Pace shots for critical hits rather than body spamming. Play methodically and don‘t panic under pressure. Prepare for some tunnel visioning as you thirst for dome shots!

Estimated Matches: 50 – 75 games
Estimated Time: 10 – 12 hours

Step 5: Complete 25 Rumble Matches

Simply loading into 25 matches of Free-for-All Rumble to completion is good enough here – wins are not required.

Weapons/Strategy: Anything goes! Try out new weapons and builds here while focusing on matches played. Losses still count so don‘t worry about K/D.

Estimated Time: 5 hours

Step 6: Complete 25 Survival Matches

Same concept except hopping into the 3v3 Survival playlist for 25 total matches completed. Having a half-decent team here helps.

Weapons/Strategy: Bring your best gear to be competitive since Survival has skill-based matchmaking. Stick with teammates and communicate!

Estimated Time: 7 hours

Step 7: Complete 25 Control Matches

Finally, wrap up the playlist activities by completing 25 matches of 6v6 Control. Play the objective and defend zones!

Weapons/Strategy: Equip auto/pulse rifles to control long lanes on large maps. Capturing zones also generates tons of points to win faster.

Estimated Time: 5 hours

The Final Challenge: Reset Valor 5 Times

This is the big one, folks. After finishing all previous quest objectives, Lord Shaxx requires you reset your Valor rank not once, not twice, but five grueling times within a single season.

Let me explain the Valor rank system a bit more here, as it can be confusing:

  • Valor ranks count upwards indefinitely as you earn points
  • Ranks apply account-wide across characters
  • Requires 2000 Valor to hit max "Legend" rank
  • Resetting wipes all points back to 0
  • Ranks reset each new season

So in plain English – you need to grind out to 2000 Valor to hit Legend 5 separate times! Once within a single season.

Strategies to Reset Valor Fast:

  • Play with 4 Crucible Prosperity mods from Ada-1
  • Complete all weekly Crucible bounties
  • Reset Valor ASAP once a season starts
  • Save Crucible tokens to cash in when needed
  • Team up with highly skilled players
  • Equip masterworked weapons to share orbs
  • Play Competitive when Valor win streaks cap out

I‘m not going to lie here – this process sucks. But I believe in you! I recommend finding an active clan into PvP to party up with and coordinate play sessions. Cool down in PvE if you ever get frustrated.

Plan for around 250 – 300 matches if average 50% win rate. Possible in one season but extremely grueling. Godspeed!

Total Estimated Time: 80 – 100 hours

Claim Your Reward: Redrix‘s Broadsword

After all that pain and suffering, it‘s finally time to rejoice with Lord Shaxx and claim your prize – Redrix‘s Claymore, one of the most lethal and sought after pulse rifles suited for Crucible domination.

Let‘s analyze what makes this weapon so deadly:

High Impact Frame – Fires at 260 RPM but hits extremely hard. Unforgiving at longer ranges but wrecks in close-mid fights.

Chambered Compensator – Nicely boosts stability and recoil direction. Easy to control.

High Caliber Rounds – Increases range and causes bonus flinch against opponents. Helps win duels.

Outlaw – Precision kills dramatically increase reload speed for high uptime.

Desperado – Reloading after a precision kill temporarily activates extreme rate of fire for melting potential.

Combined with the range provided by high caliber rounds, Redrix can out-duel most meta opponents when landing the first headshot. If Desperado procs after that initial kill – may God have mercy on the rest of the enemy team.

The explosive extended rate of fire lets you quickly mop up nearby wounded enemies with the pulse rifle‘s high damage model. Chaining Desperado rampages can entirely collapse an uncoordinated team if you have solid positioning.

In my extensive Crucible playtime over 4 graduating Legend seasons, only vigilant Bygones users can match an adept Redrix player covering lanes and team-shot opportunities. The exotic blast furnace also poses threats.

But in Destiny 2, very few legendary weapons can compete with the lethal consistency provided by Redrix‘s High Impact rounds and potentially unending barrage.

Handling and stability take mastery however – so prepare to put in hours of practice learning to tame the beast you have created. Desperado should be activated as frequently as possible, so improve accuracy over spraying.

Now let‘s crunch some numbers comparing Redrix‘s Desperado perk against current meta time-to-kill rates:

|| Body TTK | Crit TTK|Mag
Redrix + Desperado | 0.67s | 0.53s | 27
Vigilance Wing| 0.93s | 0.80s | 34
Outlast | 0.80s | 0.67s | 30
Bygones | 0.93s | 0.80s | 36
Go Figure | 1.00s | 0.87s| 34

As the data shows, Redrix‘s body and critical TTK outclasses all other pulse rifles currently in the game besides Sacred Provenance. But with nearly double the magazine size, it is much more forgiving than other high impacts.

The only true threat that can shutdown a Desperado rampage is Thorn 2-tapping guardians in 0.73 seconds. But outside of that exotic hand cannon, Redrix reigns supreme.

After over 300 hours playtime this past year resetting Valor during Season of the Forge, I can firmly say Redrix‘s Broadsword was worth every manual trigger pull over the course of the grind. Welcome it to your arsenal!

May Desperado lead your way to crushing victories in the Crucible. Eyes up guardian. This is only the beginning…

Conclusion

I hope this guide has properly prepared you for the long and treacherous pilgrimage required to add Redrix‘s Broadsword to your collection. While certainly a tedious process, keep your will strong and it will all pay off soon enough.

Destiny 2‘s PvP meta constantly evolves each season. But Redrix has remained a top tier menace since its inception thanks for the unique Desperado perk. Once you master this weapon, competitive Crucible modes will change forever as opponents melt before your eyes after that initial precise trigger pull.

Stay strong on the path to Valor rank Resets and do not hesitate to add me on Battle.net (GamerGuy#1916) if you need an ally grinding playlists into the late hours! I wish you luck out there guardian. Go get em‘!
