The Legendary Cover Duo: Koraidon and Miraidon
Scarlet players encounter the cyborg-like Koraidon while Violet players get the futuristic Miraidon. Both represent the past and future of Paldea tied to the games‘ themes. Their lore speaks of a cataclysmic battle between the two that brought calamity to the land over a millennia ago.
Now without further ado, here is everything you need to know to add Koraidon and Miraidon to your squad!
Koraidon
This fiery lizard packs a real offensive punch with 125 base attack and access to Swords Dance. With solid 95/100/100 bulk, after a boost or two he can sweep unprepared teams. Just watch out for his defensive weaknesses:
Type: Fighting/Dragon
Weaknesses: Fairy, Flying, Psychic, Ice, Dragon
Ideal Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
Ability: Adaptability
Doubles STAB bonus to 2x – with access to Outrage and Dragon Dance this makes Koraidon hit ridiculously hard after just one setup!
Recommended Moveset:
- Swords Dance
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Flare Blitz
I taught my Koraidon Swords Dance, Outrage and Dragon Claw for maximum damage output. Flare Blitz offers solid coverage and Secuchu Berry can offset recoil. Consider more utility with Protect, Substitute or coverage like Iron Head.
How to Catch
After becoming champion, return to Area Zero to challenge Koraidon again. He appears at Lv. 72 with the moves:
- Giga Impact
- Bulk Up
- Collision Course
- Flamethrower
A good strategy is to lead with a bulky Intimidate user like Iron Treads to lower his attack then chip away. Bring lots of Timer and Ultra Balls – with his low catch rate it will take patience. Quick Balls on the first turn can surprise one. I used a Modest Cetitan with Sheer Cold to rout him then Ultra Ball spammed.
Once caught, feed him Spicy food like Hot Potato Hash for offense boosts!
Miraidon
The sleek Electric/Dragon Miraidon sports great speed and special attack. With access to Nasty Plot she makes a scary setup sweeper and her unique move Electro Drift raises evasion. While frailer on defense watch out for:

Ideal Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
Ability: Volt Absorb
Gives Miraidon immunity to Electric moves and heals 25% HP when hit by them! Helpful given her weaknesses.

- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Hyper Voice
With Nasty Plot, STAB Thunderbolt and decent coverage in Dragon Pulse, Miraidon can batter teams after a boost or two. Hyper Voice hits handy for poison types. Consider Substitute, Electro Drift, and Hyper Beam for variations.
How to Catch
Once crowned champion, Miraidon awaits at Lv. 72 with:
- Hyper Beam
- Charge
- Electro Drift
- Power Gem
Miraidon‘s high speed and special attack means she can quickly KO your team if unprepared. Risk using sleep inducing moves like Yawn then chip slowly while she charges. I stalled with Protect, healed when needed, and used Klefki‘s Thunder Wave and Foul Play to wittle her down. Stock Ultra Balls and remember Timer Balls get a bonus the longer she‘s out. Her lowered defenses means Beast Balls can work too.
Feed her Sweet food like Strawberry Shortcake upon catching for special attack gains!
The Legendary Quartet: Chi-Yu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, Ting-Lu
This mysterious legendary quartet slumbered for generations until awakened by collecting their corresponding elemental stakes scattered across Paldea. They offer unique type combos and solid stats making them compelling additions to your story team or competitive matches.
While slimmer lore-wise compared to box legends, solving the puzzle of unearthing them proves quite satisfying!
Below I‘ll break down everything on finding and capturing these four newly introduced legends plus suggested movesets and team synergies. Time to hunt!
Chi-Yu Guide: The Blazing Dragon of Lore
This azure dragon Chi-Yu emerges in northern Paldea once you collect the eight sky blue elemental stakes in his domain.
His Flying/Dragon typing means only really has to watch out for Ice, Rock, Fairy and Dragon weakness. With great speed, special attack and access to Nasty Plot, Chi-Yu hits fast and hard!
Type: Flying / Dragon
Weaknesses: Rock, Ice, Dragon, Fairy
Ideal Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
Ability: Levitate
Gives immunity to ground attacks which is great given the 4x weakness!
Here is the recommended moveset I would run with some coverage considerations:
Recommended Moveset:
- Nasty Plot
- Hurricane / Air Slash
- Flamethrower / Fire Blast
- Dragon Pulse
Max his special attack and speed with Nasty Plot boosted Hurricane. Flamethrower roasts icy types. Dragon Pulse offers STAB while Thunderbolt can catch fliers. Defensively replace Nasty Plot or coverage with Roost.
Bringing allies to redirect Electric moves helps versus his lone weakness there while a Steel or Poison user covers all weaknesses.
Once ready, seek out the Shrine of Ruin to face off!
Chi-Yu Battle Info:
- Lv. 60
- Moves: Lava Plume, Bounce, Ruination, Swagger
Open up weathering him down with Thunder Wave or burns before going on offense. Beware status moves like Swagger. Hospitality food buffs were essential for my winning squad – I crushed him with Skeledirge, Flutter Mane and Clodsire. Persevere and have Quick Balls or Dusk Balls ready once weakened to catch this speedy dragon!
Chien-Pao Guide: The Stalwart Glacier Hound
The valiant ice hound Chien-Pao emerges among the western peaks after collecting his eight bright orange elemental stones.
This loyal Glacier Pokémon sports fantastic physical defense with solid HP, boosting its staying power. With decent attack and access to Sword Dance it can punch holes or avalanche foes after a boost. Just watch those fighting and steel weakness!
Type: Ice / Ground
Weaknesses: Fighting, Grass, Fire, Steel, Water
Ideal Nature: Impish (+Def, – SpA)
Ability: Snow Warning
Automatically sets up Hail upon entering battle boosting Chien-Pao’s Ice attacks. Protect allies appropriately!
Here are some moves I‘d suggest starting with:

- Earthquake / High Horsepower
- Crunch / Superpower
Boost his physical attack or defenses then pummel with STAB Icicle Crash. I taught mine High Horsepower and Crunch for extra coverage. Could also do a special set with Calm Mind, Blizzard and Earth Power. Have him hold Icicle Plate for more Blizzard pain!
Steel allies like Tinkatuff shine covering Chien-Pao’s fighting and fire weaknesses. The hound took my whole team plus a sacrificed Clodsire weakened by Hail to finally catch after a lengthy duel! Proper type counters are essential.
Chien-Pao Battle Info:
- Lv. 60
- Moves: Icicle Crash, Sucker Punch, Sacred Sword, Ruination
He hits brutally hard so don‘t underestimate this beast! Have plenty of healing items plus Quick Balls or Ultra Balls stocked before the icy showdown. And be sure to cook up some Black Granola and Berry Cream Curry to boost the Glacier Hound’s defenses after catching!
Wo-Chien Guide: The Devious Serpent of Ruin
The crafty serpent Wo-Chien materializes in South Paldea once his eight dark purple elemental shards are collected. Being partial to ruins themselves, they enjoy laying traps for unwitting explorers.
This Grass/Dark legendary snake sports extremely well-rounded stats making it a versatile fighter. While more offensive oriented, it has enough bulk to take special hits. Watch out for:
Type: Grass / Dark
Weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, Ice
Ideal Nature: Naughty (+Atk, -SpD)
Ability: Grass Pelt
Boosts Wo-Chien’s defense during Grassy Terrain giving sustainability alongside Horn Leech.
Here‘s the movepool I‘d suggest starting with:

- Coil / Swords Dance
- Power Whip
- Seed Bomb
- Sucker Punch
Use Coil or Swords Dance to set up then fire off STAB Power Whips. Consider Leaf Blade for higher crit ratio. Sucker Punch revenge kills. Could also run special set with Leaf Storm and Dark Pulse. Items like Miracle Seed further amplify Wood Chien‘s grass moves.
A fire or flying ally covers Wo-Chien well while having something to switch into ice attacks helps lock down wins. This cunning serpent can definitely pull out surprise victories when played well!
Wo-Chien Battle Info:
- Lv. 60
- Moves: Giga Drain, Foul Play, Ruination, Power Whip
Even prepared Wo-Chien‘s evasiveness and sustain stymied my team multiple times. Have lots of restoratives items on hand because it will be a battle of attrition. Use paralysis or poison to slow the slippery foe then chip down with type advantage attacks. Dusk Balls work well once weakened enough in the ruins and don‘t forget to cook some Secret Herb Humus to buff his offenses later!
Ting-Lu Guide: The Impenetrable Titanic Tortoise
This durable turtle Ting-Lu holds court in Paldea‘s northwest and emerges from his shrine upon collection of the eight gold elemental stakes scattered through the marshes and coastlands.
Don‘t be fooled by Ting-Lu‘s gentile appearance – he sports fantastic physical defense with nice HP and passable offenses. The Rocky Helmet ability chips away at physical attackers as icing. Watch out for:
Type: Rock / Ground
Weaknesses: Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, Steel, Water
Ideal Nature: Relaxed (+Def, -Spd)
Ability: Rocky Helmet
Inflicts recoil equal to 1/6 of opponents attack when hit by a physical move. Great for stall tactics!
Here‘s how I‘d suggest slotting Ting-Lu‘s moves:
Recommended Moveset:
- Stealth Rock / Iron Defense
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge / Rock Slide
- Scald
Use Stealth Rock for residual damage then boost up defenses with Iron Defense. STAB Earthquake hits hard while I suggest Rock Slide for accuracy over Stone Edge plus possible flinch chance. Scald covers ground weaknesses. Could also do special attacking set with Power Gem, Ancient Power and Earth Power plus body press!
Bringing Grass and Water partners covers Ting-Lu‘s weaknesses nicely. You‘ll want to watch out for special hits however given his lower special bulk. Took a sacrificial ‘Mon to luckily freeze him with Ice Beam for my catch but stacked defense and chipping won the war of attrition. Have lots of Timer and Dusk Balls ready for this resilient turtle tank once whittled down! And don‘t forget to cook up some Tofu Stew to pump up those defenses further post catch.
