How to Restart, Shut Down, Sleep, and Hibernate Windows Vista through a Remote Desktop Connection (RDP)
When I’m working in my home office, I access my laptop via Remote Desktop (RDP). My desktop has dual monitors and I find it easier to use my laptop this way.
My laptop runs Vista Business and one problem I have is that when I need to Shut Down (Turn off) or Restart (reboot) my laptop, those things aren’t options in the Start menu. When connected via RDP you you only have the options of Log Off and Lock.
I’ve found a nifty little work-around that may help you as well. Click on Windows Security instead of where you normally click to turn off your computer.
In the Windows Security area, click on the Shut down options button—this is the little arrow beside the Shut Down button in the lower right-hand corner. Here you can access the options for Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, and Shut Down.
Enjoy!
