Beware of Patio Furniture from The Home Depot, Kmart, Sam’s Club, and Sears
This post updated on July 17, 2007; November 11, 2007; and November 12, 2007. See the updated sections at the bottom.
In June, my wife and I had a new deck built onto our house. The old one was only 10′x8′ and was rather well worn. The new one is 12′x20′ and we have really been enjoying it. It was built by Randy Graham and Storage Buildings of Thomasville–they did a fantastic job! I can highly recommend them if you are in the Triad area of North Carolina and are looking for someone to build a deck, porch, or storage building.
They finished building the deck on Saturday, June 26th. My wife and I had been looking at patio furniture for the previous couple months, hoping to find a set that we both liked and that would work well on our new deck. We settled on the Portachi 5-Piece Dining Set by Hampton Bay from Home Depot (see picture below).
Overall, I am well pleased with the quality of the product. When I unpacked the parts, they were very well packaged and wrapped. When I assembled the table, I noticed that the table rim was missing two welded on insert nuts–this meant that one of the legs wouldn’t connect to the table top. It’s not noticeable, and the table functions, but I know that it’s missing something and not as sturdy as it should be. For $400, I would like it to be right.
I called JRA Furniture Industries the following Friday . It took several calls before I actually got to talk to a Customer Service Representative, but I finally made it through. The connection would end after it kept me on hold for 10 minutes so I had to use some of the tricks at GetHuman.com. The operator connected me to a very nice lady named Elizabeth. I explained my problem and she said they could replace the part. I just needed to fax a copy of my receipt, a description of my problem, and my shipping information to her at 562-229-1728.
I started trying to send this fax on Friday–their fax number would pick up and then hang up. The fax finally connected and completed on Sunday, June 3rd. I ended up with nearly $11 in extra phone charges due to their fax machine dropping the calls though.
For the past two weeks, I’ve been trying to get through to them to check on the status of my request. Every time I call 1-800-211-8881, I get an automated message saying that there are between 15 and 25 people on hold and the longest one had been waiting 9+ minutes. At the 10 minute point, the call is disconnected. I can’t seem to get through to an operator either.
Today, I decided to see if they had an email address I could use. Their web site (www.JRAFurniture.com) had an address of custserv@jrafurniture.com for Customer Service. I wrote out a detailed description of my history with the issue, attached the copy of my original fax as a PDF file, and sent the email. A few minutes later, I received a bounce notification that stated, “I was unable to deliver to custserv @jrafurniture.com because the user is over their quota.”
At this point, I was really concerned. I did some research online and it appears that JRA Furniture Industries, the company that makes this furniture, has filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy protection. Yes, I said Chapter 7–a total liquidation of assets. Apparently this is due to a class action law suit brought against them based on poor quality (i.e shatter-prone) glass table tops in some furniture they make for Martha Stewart (News article at Consumer Affairs.).
I was going to contact Hampton Bay, but apparently they are just a brand for The Home Depot and don’t have any direct contact information. I’ve sent an email to The Home Depot and so far I’ve only received an automated reply that didn’t offer me much hope either.
The furniture seems to be good quality and we are happy with it. My reason for posting this is to warn potential customers that if they purchase patio furniture made by JRA Furniture Industries, the warranty MAY be worthless. I’m still trying to determine if mine is or not, but it appears that we’re out of luck. Their furniture is sold under different names including Hampton Bay and Martha Stewart. If you are considering purchasing patio furniture at either The Home Depot, Kmart, Sam’s Club, or Sears, you may want to see if it was made by JRA Furniture Industries. You can see the various collections they make on the Retail Locator page of their web site. In case their site goes down, here is a link to that same page at the Internet Archive. I’m not telling you to boycott furniture made by JRA Furniture Industries. I am just relating the facts of my own experience and research in an effort to save others similar unexpected trouble.
If I get an update from The Home Depot that negates anything I have stated in this article, I will post an update here.
Update – July 17th, 2007: I got a form reply back from The Home Depot. Here is the text of that email:
Dear Customer,
We are responding to your email regarding your Hampton Bay patio set.
Unfortunately, JRA Furniture had gone out of business about 3 weeks ago. There patio sets are being discontinued and what the stores have in stock they are selling and will not have anymore. There is a company that supplied parts for JRA called TSY Services. We are guiding customers there for replacement parts. You can contact TSY Services at 1-800-858-9969.
If you need any other information please contact Hampton Bay at 1-877-527-0313 Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm CST. Your reference number is #######.
Thank You
Hampton Bay
Customer Service
I called the 1-800-858-9969 phone number and received a message saying, “Jump into fun, exciting, live talk now! Call 1-800-343-7700!” I wasn’t really interested in “fun talk”, I just want my replacement table top, so I called the Hampton Bay number. None of the options on Hampton Bay’s automated voice response system fit my needs, so I just chose different options and after several calls I was finally able to talk to a real person.
Keenen was able to look up my reference number and provide a correct number for TSY Services–1-800-585-9969. Someone had transposed some numbers.
I called TSY Services and they answered the phone promptly. I spoke with a really nice lady named Bridget. I explained my problem and she said that the parts were on order but they wouldn’t have them until early September. That’s OK, as long as I know it’s coming. I had to send her all the information from before, including a copy of my receipt, and a picture showing the missing insert nuts. I’m know feeling much better about this whole thing, but has certainly been an ordeal.
Update – November 11th, 2007: My wife and I were running some errands on the afternoon of Saturday, October 20th. When we returned home, there was a HUGE flat box on the front porch. It was too big to be our table top. When I opened it, sure enough, it was the wrong one. Our table is square and dark colored. The one they shipped us was rectangular, beige in color, with vines and leaves under the glass–it included the glass as well. I was doing some traveling, so it was November 1st before I had an opportunity to call TSY and let them know about the mix-up. I talked to a customer service agent named Erica who was really nice. I explained that I needed to know what to do with the one they sent me, and what I need to know to get the correct table top that I need. She said that she didn’t know how to handle this situation and that I would need to talk to her supervisor, but her supervisor was out of the office, so she transferred me to her voice mail. I explained my situation to the supervisor and left my cell phone number for her to call me back. It has now been 10 days and I still haven’t heard anything. I guess I’ll have to call again. I’ll keep you posted about how it goes.
Update – November 12th, 2007: I called TSY again this morning and got to talk to a supervisor. I explained my issue again that I received a part that was for a table other than the one I ordered. I talked with a very helpful lady named Sana this time. I did need to email her pictures of the label that showed that they were supposed to send table top rim for a Portachi Dining Set along with a picture showing that I actually received a table top rim for a Folian dining set. Once again, I’m feeling good about things. I hope it all works out this time.
Beware Of Patio Furniture…
From a good post on problems you might find with patio furniture, the class action suit against a major furniture manufacturer…….
July 24th, 2007 at 4:43 pmMaybe you already tried this, but is there no way to find a matching bolt (i.e. same diameter, length, thread size and count) at a hardware store? you could get it in stainless, guessing its probably metric.
July 25th, 2007 at 12:39 pmShopper – I’m not missing a bolt. I have the bolts. The table is missing two insert nuts that are welded into the table rim. I could probably find insert nuts, and find someone that could weld them in, and then find someone that could repaint the table rim to match because the heat from the welding would damage the paint. That would all probably cost at least a couple hundred dollars and it’s not worth that when it’s under warranty.
July 25th, 2007 at 12:54 pmI have the same problem with that company(JRA). The welds broke on two of the swivel rockers with less than six months use. They said they would order the repair parts from China. That was four months ago.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:36 amJB
Just called TSY services. They said I would have to start all over again and I will.
July 27th, 2007 at 11:44 amBoy, can I relate! I am having a very similar problem with a shattered patio table top by Hampton Bay. I had the same experience with JRA – never could talk to a live person. I recently got the phone number of TSY from Hampton Bay and am hopeful of getting some help there. Thanks for sharing your story – good to know I’m not the only one with this problem.
July 28th, 2007 at 10:14 amDo you have any alternate contact info for gazebo purchased through Sears that was manufactured by JRA? It was the Prairie Stone series. The canopy ripped and the above story could have been written by me! Thanks!
July 30th, 2007 at 11:29 amRobin – I’ve included all the information that I have in the article. Good luck!
July 30th, 2007 at 10:28 pmWell, here is another story. The lancaster set sold at Lowes is also JRA. I have been trying to make a claim also. Some pieces had bad paint according to JRA and the tables are splitting at the seams on the top edge that surrounds the glass. I actually made contact with them in May—but no respones since. If anyone has found any help, please write!!!
July 31st, 2007 at 5:08 pmI just bought a Hampton Bay patio set from Home Depot in early July. The glass table top shattered. I was sick. I’m just getting started on my search for a replacement. I was glad to find this website, only with it had been prior to my purchase. None-the-less, I’ve got to replace it. Thanks for the tips – keep them coming.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:40 amconcerning the hampton bay line of patio furniture distributed by home depot. since i need warranty i called the toll free # and waited 10 minutes. then i called mike at h.d. and he wanted me to call them again with a number he had. i politely refused and asked mike if he would do the phone calling and have the replacement chair shipped to me. mike was ready to help me, to my surprise, and asked that i bring in the damaged chair and all pertinent paperwork and he would send for a new one. to be continued…….pete
August 6th, 2007 at 11:32 amPete – I’m glad to hear that things are working out for you! Keep us informed.
August 6th, 2007 at 1:50 pm…continued, i took a chance and called the customer service # again and can you believe an assistant answered right away and assured me in about 3 weeks i should have my replacement chair. anyone needing parts for the cabrera 5 piece dining set from home depot should call 1-800-279-1736. its brown jordan intl, i think, but who cares, im getting my chair replaced and it was so easy. i can repair the broken chair until the new one arrives. what a country!!!!!!!!1 pete
August 6th, 2007 at 5:41 pmby the way, cool web site. thanks ricky.
August 6th, 2007 at 5:43 pmI have a NIGHTMARE styory going on with JRA. Same BS my replacement glass top is on order from china and I have been waiting since Oct OF LAST YEAR. I have emailed many times and always get the same “thanks for being patient line”. I tried calling all day today and get we are experiencing a high call demand. There are 9 callers waiting. I wait and they disconnect. No emails are getting returned. They bounce back with a over quota (as if they are not getting them.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:10 pmARGH
It seems that almost all Hamptom Bay products are Made in China and the quality of workmanship is substandard. The manufactures are trying to get something for nothing when it comes to the labor coast of producing an item, for that reason it is Made in China and we as consumers are paying the price. The manufacturer will save a substantial saving in the coast of producing an item and sell it almost as much if not more than it would have been Made in U.S.A. If the product was made hears I beleive these issues would not have been in existant, even if it was made in the U.S.A. anyone could make a misteak, yet if a part was missing it would not take a year for the parts. It is not American made then it is not good enough!
August 11th, 2007 at 5:06 pmWow! I had a VERY similar experience. Even dealt with Elizabeth and have been waiting for a replacement part since 5/31/07. We purchased a Hampton Bay Folian set and the chaise Lounge chair was missing some welded parts on the right arm. I faxed all the info, including receipt to Elizabeth and she told me they would ship a replacement. We spent hours on the phone trying to follow-up. Thanks for the TSY number . . . I’ll call them Monday.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:30 pmI just bought the “closeout” of JRA’s Cambridge collection from Sears and I’am picking up the table tomarrow–I’m gonna show this site to them and ask if they will back me up if I have a problem like all you guys–I’m really upset now and a funny thing –I’ve been back to the store twice to make sure I made the right purchase and I never do that!
August 25th, 2007 at 2:01 pm(im the same pete from entries 13 and 14) heres a suggestion, if we could all send our junk patio sets to one location, (say a junk patio furniture warehouse), and that location could list the parts he-she has on this blog, and the next suckers to buy the same junk we bought could have a source for they’re junk patio sets when they start to fall apart. we would be rid of our junk and could use the $ to go out and purchase some real patio stuff. and then when some one did get a real patio set, they could throw a party and invite all of us losers that dont have any patio furniture to enjoy their new patio furniture. thanks, from pete
August 26th, 2007 at 2:56 pmone more thing, i have lots of experience fixing things around the house and several years working at ace hdwe. i repaired my own broken patio chair with a carriage bolt after i drilled through the arm with my drill press. the material is very soft and easy to drill (and break!!!) and its probably stronger than the original weld. im patiently waiting for the new chair to arrive (if it ever gets here!!!!!) thanks again, pete
August 26th, 2007 at 3:09 pm<p>Same thing for over 3 months, been trying to get thru that [expletive deleted] 800.211.8881– then hung up on after being on hold over 20 min. I just wrote long complaint letter to JRA in Cerritos, Ca and received the mail return today with no forward address. I found your site by accident looking for the BBB. We Bought our set at SAMS CLUB $400 the granite top is damaged. I will try that new number tomorrow 800.585.9969– thanks!!</expletive></p>
August 27th, 2007 at 9:43 pmI had contacted TSY. Lady said I would have to send email with info. She also said that the container ship was due in Sept.
August 28th, 2007 at 10:56 amSince then, the phone has been disconected and emails returned as error.

I purchased a Hampton Bary, Folian set from H.D on Mother’s Day. The tabletop frame was warped so the glass was sticking up. After many hrs on hold in 10 min intervals, I got Elizabeth. She said the tops are on backorder and I’d receive mine in 6-8 weeks. I did have to fax the pictures, receipts, etc. It’s now 8/28 and no table top. I contacted the HD mgr where I purchased my tabel. They were able to get a table top from another store. Gave it to me. At least I have a table that’s ok. I now have an extra glass top and legs. I tried finding the BBB for Cerritos with no luck. There must be a way we can contact the CEO’s of HD, Lowes and Sams and complain of the poor quality items theyre selling. I’m finding most items from China are poor quality. When is the US going to wake up?
August 28th, 2007 at 12:13 pmI have a glass table top that shattered last week purchased from Kmart. Its a Martha Stewart patio set. No I’ve been reading its going on alot and they are still selling them.. Go figure.. anybody got information on how to get a replacement from JRA. I know they went out of business and filed bankrupty a couple weeks ago. Been reading the other comments. Kmart sent us to a website marthastewartenterprise.com … but of course it doesnt exist. Can anyone help? She should still be in jail!
September 2nd, 2007 at 8:33 pmI purchased over $3000 of Hampton Bay (Sydney Collection) for my boss back in April. After learning of the problems and knowing there are a lot of kids around his deck (not to mention that I will be the one with the headache of replacing things if/when they break), I spoke to Home Depot, then TSY who told me they don’t handle the Sydney Collection and then to Home Depot Corporate (800)553-3199 who finally told me that policy is now that the store it was purchased from will handle either a replacement of the glass or return of the furniture. I spoke to the store I purchased from and I am waiting on a call back to see if I have any limitations. Will update after I find out the outcome.
September 10th, 2007 at 12:59 pmI just purchased the Martha Stewart Olympia bar set and patio set the bar set came with no instructions or hardware to put it together the phone # to call was NOT JRA but Numark Industries
September 16th, 2007 at 6:06 pmdoes anyone know if Numark is also manufacturing Martha Stewart or if this is just another # to call they said they would order the hardware for me but it could take 6wks as it is on back order I was given a conf #
OK…so the store I purchased from will allow for an exchange in the furniture. So it seems Home Depot will now stand behind the problems of this furniture. Good for Home Depot!!!
September 17th, 2007 at 8:04 amThe correct # for TSY is 800-585-9969. My Hampton Bay Folian Balcony Set glass tabletop shattered as well. The total time on the phone with TSY was 10 minutes. The rep. was very helpful and professional. Although my item was on backorder which will take approximately 4 to 5 weeks for delivery, I thought the overall experience was positive.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:20 ami finally did get my chair replaced. i t came in a box that looked like it had been through a battle with a fork lift. one corner of the box was crushed and i could see inside and there were two holes all the way through the box from the forks but the chair was safe. i dont know how it survived unscathed but it did. pbhr
September 25th, 2007 at 11:35 amI got the MILANO 7PC DINING SET from sears. I need a new top piece(broke it). anyone have the same problem.
October 11th, 2007 at 12:11 pmI too bought this Hampton Bay patio set. Vynal wicker and the table top just shattered for no reason. I guess I’ll call this TSY place on monday and see if they can send me a replacement. Thanks for the info….I was thinking I was going to have to pay $300+ for the replacement of this.
October 14th, 2007 at 2:47 pmi have ordered the Pillar Gazebo from JRA also. The netting started deteriated with in 1 month. I called the number and talked to Percy. He had me take pitures and fax them. I called Sears and Mary the manager for the department said she would call them and call me back. I am finding out that Sears does not stand behind what they sell. If anyone has a number to call for Sears please let me know. Thanks
October 19th, 2007 at 4:45 pmWE also had purchased a patio furniture set (Florenza) from Sam’s Club on December 23, 2003, purchase price was around $650.00. The patio set is an octegon table with glass top and 6 swivel chairs, within a 6 month period one swivel chair broke while I was holding my infant grandson on my lap, both of us ended up on the floor while protecting my grandson from injury I received minor injuries. I made contact with the company, they completely replaced the chair, after I supplied them with copy of receipt and a picture of the broken chair, stating that some furniture had defective parts and they were addressing the problem. Within the next year and a half I had 2 more chairs brake, luckly no one was injured in these incidents, once again I had to supply a picture of the broken chair to the company and they sent replacement parts each time. Now in October 2007 I recently had another chair brake and there is no one to contact or replace my chair parts (which is once again the center seat post). Why was there not a recall enforced if they had defective parts like I was informed.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:18 pmFor all the folks with problems with JRA, best of luck, lol! There is NO SHAME in ‘cobbling’ to fix the problem. You will have NO luck dealing with a bankrupt company dealing in cheap chinese products. I have a patio set, couch, two chairs, KILLER marble topped fire pit. No problems AFTER I had to laugh, drink, cuss, spit and pull hair out to ‘engineer’ it together. Colored fingernail polish and steel wool can match nearly ANY paint/texture. Glass isn’t cheap, but any reputable glass shop can design whatever you need. It stuns me that folks that buy patio furniture actually think that there’s a warantee, lol. You get what you pay for in this case. I got a SCREAMING deal on my set from Sam’s Club. $800 down from $1650. The LAST thing I expected was a warantee or easy, simple, complete assembly. The marble is crap, so I sealed it. The cushions are crap, but I hid seat foam underneath. I can’t keep dog/cat hair off, but it’s the price to pay for having pets that make me giggle. HARDWARE STORES, A DRILL, A GLASS SHOP. Don’t be afraid to make the stuff you bought BETTER by spending $10. Trust me, the frustration involved will be FAR, FAR less than spending $56 and hours on the phone and internet.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:14 pmTim’s right…why bother with the BS? It will only trigger undesireable physiological responses in the body. Luckily for me, when the weld on the captain’s style rocker chair (Charm Patio Set)I was setting completely gave way, I wasn’t seriously hurt. My family initially laughed, but soon realized that I hurt my elbow and buttocks. But on secoond thought Home Depot needs to stop selling garbage! Aurther Blank and his cronnies are making billions selling this crap, and we are nearly powerless to stop them. Any thoughts? Is there an ongiong class action lawsuit thaT includes HD?
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:36 pmI bought a jra patio furniture with insurance for two years, and trying to contact them about it because, i need to replace the cushion which they’re fading on the fabric and the chairs are all unfirm they also rusting after 6 months of having them outside my patio plus with the cover to protect them from rain ect. I just want a little of consideration at least the replacement since I pay so much for it more than a $1,000 it’s not fare to ingnore us when we also pay for insurance.
January 8th, 2008 at 2:24 pmWell I have been duped too. I bought a bakers rack from Sam’s. It’s called BELLA FLORA BAKERS RACK. The problem is I purchased it over a year ago and I’m just now getting it put together. It’s been packed in it’s original box in my dining room. I opened it today and the bottom shelf is broken, the top ornamental part is broken and there is no hardware. You guessed it, it comes from JRA Furniture. Any suggestions? Supposedly has a five year warranty.
January 10th, 2008 at 2:46 pmI guess I’ll add my name to the list of the duped. My husband and I bought a gazebo from Target, and I’m suprised that Target has been able to fly under the radar on this. None of the information that I’ve none of the infomation that I’ve read on this company fiasco has mentioned Target as one of the retailers. But anyway, when we opened the box to assemble the gazebo some of the parts were already damaged. We returned the first one and exchange it for a new one (silly us). The second one had a bent part and some of the small locks that hold the canvas in place broke when we tried to lock them down. The company was very prompt in replacing the parts when we contacted them initially, but now we have a canvas that looks like it was attacked by an angrey hawk. I just started my efforts to reach the company today to order a replacement canvas. Based on what I’ve found today, it dosen’t look like a replacement is in our future. If anyone knows of a company that can provide a replacement please post the information so we don’t have to replace the entire gazebo.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:04 pmThank you.
Buy good quality, made in the USA patio furniture from your local patio furniture shop. You’ll get better service, and your furniture will last.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:01 pmThanks.
I agree with Tim’s comments about having to “engineer” many of the ready-to-assemble products available at big-box retailers these days. HOWEVER, I don’t agree with the “LOL” comments at all, especially when a 4′x6′ glass table top explodes and shatters into a million tiny shards in a 20′ radius! After reading through the hundreds of complaints online about this problem, someone needs to be held accountable. Even though JRA is out of business and TSY is slowly fixing some of the problems, I still haven’t heard of any remedies for the shattered glass problem. Has anyone found a solution, either how to get a replacement or any legal recourse? (And no Tim, I’m not willing to pay $1000 to have the glass replaced.)
April 10th, 2008 at 4:53 pmI purchased the Folian dining set from Home Depot in April of 2007. One of the welds on the leaf pattern broke in June. I went thru the same stuff as everyone else. Finally I did contact TSY and spoke to Erica (Wiley?). She said that the table and my rusty rocker chairs were on back order for 10 weeks. It’s now been 10 months and still no table no chairs and now Erica’s email address is no longer valid. I guess I’m going to have to start from scratch.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:38 pmI have been trying to track down someone in customer service who could help me with my purchase from KMart, a outdoor patio set made for Martha Stewart. It is manufactured by Numark Industries. Last summer I sent customer service a copy of the receipt and pictures of split arm rests. The metal arms are just splitting causing jagged edges-not as bad as exploding table tops. At that point someone was going to send me a refund for the 3 chairs, not so. The 800 # has changed, and the website does not actually go to customer service although it indicates it does. Anyone have any suggestions for Numark Industries?
April 29th, 2008 at 12:06 pmi work for home depot, and i am currently dealing with a customer issue about a damaged Folian patio set, that was puchaased i will call the TSY number, and see what resolution i can get. thanks!
May 1st, 2008 at 8:58 amThomas – When I posted this last year, I hoped it would help a number of people in the same situation as I was in. I never thought a Home Depot employee would find it useful though. Thanks for stopping by!
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:40 pmi found it very useful! i called TSY Services, and they are the company responsible for the warranty issues relating to JRA Industries, and what they need is “proof of damage” IE: pictures, and the copy of the store receipt, emailed to them. However, the person i spoke with, said the customer is responsible for the freight charges. i explained this to the customer, and they will be getting back to me on their results! i hope it works out.
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:59 pmI am also a victim of an exploding glass top table…two of my children were injured by the glass pieces from the table top…
Our set was purchased at Sears less than two months ago – Augusta Hills Collection. Just in case anyone was wondering…
May 6th, 2008 at 9:10 amI don’t really feel I need to reiterate an event which apparently if too well known already. Unfortunately I have just been made aware, and not BEFORE having fallen victim to not only shattering glass, but frustration to the loss of hard earned money, and not knowing what to do next.
First of all, I personally don’t hold any of the chain stores responsible – other than once they are made aware of the fact(s) they should pull the items from their stores ASAP before more injuries happen!
Hampton Bay/JRA are the ones who need to make things right with their consumers.
If you haven’t already placed a formal complaint at consumeraffairs, please do so immediately. This is one of the main ways we as consumers can take some action to do what is right.
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/furniture/hampton_bay.html
With all of that said. What have some of you done as far as replacing the glass? Is it possible at all? Maybe you’ve become a little creative and can share some other options?
Thanks.
May 19th, 2008 at 10:22 pmI recently bought a Folian patio set, and I lost one of the cushions (long story!). Is there anyone out there who would like to sell me one or two of their cushions? Maybe you are trashing the set? Thanks so much! Irene 847-274-1043.
June 7th, 2008 at 3:49 pmI purchased a 7-pc Hampton Bay Folian table set last summer. I open the box yesterday the table had a spider web crack in it as I proceeded to pull the box back the glass shattered. Unfortuately I am having a problem in getting it replaced- I had left my receipt attached to the box in the garage for the pass 10 months and the reciept faded. TSY states they can not do a search and before they could address any thing I needed a receipt. So, I guess I just have 7 chairs. Any suggestions.
June 20th, 2008 at 2:17 pmJackee,
June 27th, 2008 at 9:41 pmI’m looking for a couple Folian chairs. You can contact me at cecejr@msn.com if you have any interest in selling them.
I just got off the phone with TSY (Who John and Kia from Home Depot referred me to) regarding my chipped paint issue. They will replace the rim and glass of my set for shipping charges only. I guess I will do that. Home Depot has been helpful in this matter.
A comment for Jackee. If you know the credit card # and date you bought it, you might be able to call the store for them to locate a copy of your receipt. That’s what I did with Home Depot. I did not remember the exact date, but I knwew month and year and got my credit card statement from that month. Called Home depot and gave them the Credit card used and date of purchase and amount and they did find the receipt from 04/06. It’s worth a try.

July 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pmI have done some research on tempered glass. I also can say that I have been cut by an exploding piece of the glass. Most people don’t understand how it is made. See below definition that I found on the internet. Please also note that even an acorn or a squirrel jumping on a glass table top at a certain angle can cause the table top to break. So can an umbrella that is opened in the table in some windy conditions.
Tempered glass is one of two kinds of safety glass regularly used in applications in which standard glass could pose a potential danger. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than standard glass and does not break into sharp shards when it fails. Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass.
The brittle nature of tempered glass causes it to shatter into small oval-shaped pebbles when broken. This eliminates the danger of sharp edges. Due to this property, along with its strength, tempered glass is often referred to as safety glass.
The thermal process that cures tempered glass also makes it heat resistant. Tempered glass is used to make the carafes in automatic coffee makers and the windows in ovens. Computer screens, skylights, door windows, tub enclosures and shower doors are more examples of places you will find tempered glass. Building codes also require the windows of many public structures to be made of tempered glass.
Automobiles use a different type of safety glass for the windshield and tempered glass for the back and side windows. Windshields are made from laminated glass, which sandwiches a sheet of plastic between two panels of glass. When the windshield breaks, the glass panels stick to the plastic film, rather than falling away to possibly injure the driver or other passengers.
Tempered glass breaks in a unique way. If any part of the glass fails, the entire panel shatters at once. This distinguishes it from normal glass, which might experience a small crack or localized breakage from an isolated impact. Tempered glass might also fail long after the event that caused the failure. Stresses continue to play until the defect erupts, triggering breakage of the entire panel.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmDoes anyone know where I can get replacement parts for a Coleman “Richmond Collection” set thqat is manufactured by Numark and sold at Lowe’s. A couple of the plastic connectors have cracked and I can’t seem to find anything on line.
August 21st, 2008 at 2:32 pmgood afternoon, omg. just reading and trying to contact the hampton bay for a material/sling chair torn. well of course the first numbers are no longer in service. i ll try these new ones i just learned about. (7 year warranty?) THANKS
August 27th, 2008 at 2:47 pmHi…
September 6th, 2008 at 5:01 amI just bought a patio set this evening from a major grocery chain in Southern California. It was missing 2 cushions that I was interested in replacing. The tags on the furniture are JRA with a website and I ended up here. What a mess for you guys. Luckily my table top is not glass, and I got a great deal, it was the last set. But why are they still selling this furniture at retail in a high end market chain? Several months ago this set was $499.00.
I am looking for a cushion replacement. A couple of years ago I bought the “Brittany Collection” 6pc Outdoor Seating Group (sofa, 2 chairs) made by JRA (from Sam’s Club). Ea chair has a back cushion and a seat cushion. A cat or squirrel or something has damaged one “back cushion” and I need to replace it. I’ve been reading all the comments here and I admit I’m scared! I’m only just beginning my quest and already have much anxiety, but I will perservere and start by calling the numbers you’ve all so generously shared (thank you!), but in the meantime if anyone has an extra back cushion they don’t need I’d sure like to hear from you @ 314-210-8976. Good luck … to me and to all of you!
October 15th, 2008 at 9:45 amTHIS IS PRETTY SAD THAT I AM #56. AFTER READING MOST OF EVERYONES TROUBLES I DON’T FEEL SO ALONE IN MY FRUSTRATION ANYMORE. I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER AND DISCOVERED THAT HOME DEPOT WAS WHERE I NEEDED TO PURCHASE MY SET BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T HAVE MY SET FROM SAMS CLUB. $1000 AND A BROKEN GIANT UMBRELLA WITH SHATTERED GLASS ON MY LAZY SUSAN. I GUESS WE ARE GONNA TRY TO FIX IT ON OUR OUN!!
October 15th, 2008 at 10:10 amJust wondering how any of you could call the 1.800-585-9969 as I have been trying for months now and all I get is a message to call in their normal hours which I do and I leave messages but nobody never answers or calls me back.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:06 amI was trying to get a hold of them for replacement parts of a costco canopy 10×20.
I also bought a Pillar Gazebo from Sears in ‘06. Out of the box it had some missing parts which JRA promptly replaced. We also bought the matching patio table and chairs, which had two defective chair seats (fabric was poorly made). They told me they would ship two new chairs…? What? All I needed was the fabric replacements. Anyway, I received the parts for the Gazebo, and never received the chairs or fabric. Finally, we noticed the gazebo cover starting to deteriate during the winter of 06-07. I began calling and emailing JRA to buy a replacement cover, and finally, through Sears, discovered they had gone bankrupt. The whole set is really great looking, and to mirror the comments of many before me, for the $ spent, I cannot afford to trash can the stuff and start over. I have contacted several Awning companies in Austin, trying to find someone who can make a new cover from the pattern of the original. No luck there just yet. So in the meantime, I am designing a hard cover using the solid frame of the gazebo which is still bolted down to the patio. Standard lumber and connectors (yes I am handy!) and some of the newer polycarbonate greenhouse panels for light, will be the basis of the design. If I chose to build it will be happy to share plans/photos with anyone interested. BUY AMERICAN! Does that ring a bell?
December 30th, 2008 at 7:24 pmOh my! This is all too familiar. We bought a Hampton Bay patio set from Home Depot June 2007. We just moved from Colorado to California and as my husband was carrying the glass for the coffee table to the backyard it shattered into millions of pieces Yikes. He got a few minor cuts. I came across the blog when I was out searching for Hampton Bay replacement parts. I’ve decided after reading all of the stories of frustration I am not going to bother. I will just buy replacement glass locally or I could get crafty and make a mosaic top for it. The movers scratched up the paint also so I guess I’ll try some kind of touch up paint trick. Good Luck everyone. Next time I’ll check where it is made before I buy. Are there any patio companies that manufacture in the US of A? -Kim-
January 14th, 2009 at 1:41 amWOW! were my eyes opened. I bought a Hampton Bay patio set from home depot, thank goodness none with glass, but the canopy cover on the chair swing ripped down the middle. It’s ??still under warranty and the yag advised to call the 1-800- 585-9969 number PST that no one is ever available. Thanks for all the comments…as number 61 & now know I can make better use of my time. I will go to my neighborhood Fire dept seamstress that sews nomex & see if they can help. No more time looking for a replacement canopy cover. Now that I think about it, wasn’t it funny they placed a tag on there on how to obtain replacement cover, cushion, & canopy cover. They must have had these issues before…..hum.
March 8th, 2009 at 8:34 pmHas anyone actually received a replacement order from TSY? I just called them and placed an order for replacement cushions. They were very helpful, but I am a bit hesitant as they said to send a check or money order payable to them before they will send out the cushions. I just want to make sure that I am not being taken for a ride on this one!
March 17th, 2009 at 1:37 pmAmy – As you can tell from the article, I did receive my stuff–eventually. However, it was a warranty replacement part so I didn’t have to pay for them. You may want to see if they can send it C.O.D. so that you don’t pay until the shipment arrives. Good luck!
March 17th, 2009 at 4:31 pmYes, I had to pay about 100. I received the replacement table top in a couple of weeks. There was some slight shipping damage to the top, but I just banged it out and it’s okay
March 17th, 2009 at 9:19 pmI have read all these posts. I think it’s time we file small claim actions against Homedepot for breach of contract and beech of the implied fitness for use
March 31st, 2009 at 10:07 pmUnder the uniform commercial code, which applies to sales. If I don’t get a response from them within 48 hours, I will proceed and let post the result. The other option is to file a class action suit against Homedepot . Seems there are enough complainants with the same issues.
David, DO NOT file a class action suit against HomeDepot or any other business for that matter. The only people who make money in class actions are the lawyers. The people who sued the cigarette manufacturers on their own got money (millions) while those who joined the class action received nothing (or maybe a coupon for a free pack of cigarettes :0) What people need to do is research before purchase, especially for seasonal goods like patio furniture -where can replacement parts be purchased, who covers the warranty, etc. Unfortunately, it is beyond any retailer’s knowledge to know when or if the manufacturer is going under. In other words, caveat emptor – buyer beware.
As far as TSY, I’ve used them before to replace worn cushions/swing covers on an outdoor swing I purchased from HomeDepot. It took me two frustrating weeks of calling HomeDepot and speaking to different people who could only tell me HomeDepot didn’t carry replacement parts. I was to the point of making the cover myself, but it had disintigrated so I couldn’t make a pattern. I got on the internet to try and find a pattern and ended up finding TSY. I sent them a photo of my swing and they immediately called me to give me a price. They were polite, professional and sent my items the same day they received my check. I’m getting ready to call them again, so hopefully I’ll get the same service as before.
April 4th, 2009 at 4:07 pmTable top shattered into a million pieces, me too!! I called TSY last summer and they told me that they were expecting a shipment in Oct. and I should call back. I gave up, but I’m not willing to take this. My understanding is that HD owns Hampton Bay, how is it that they are not responsible? Why are they sending us to someone else?
April 18th, 2009 at 11:06 pmI purchased the Foliuan 7pc dinette set from Home Depot in spring 2007 and like many others my table top shattered into a thousand little pieces giving me and my husband several little cuts. I will try to call this TSY 800#. If anyone has received their replacement tabletop, can you please tell me who you contacted and how long did it take to receive?
thanks a bunch Deb Fort Worth, Tx
April 25th, 2009 at 12:40 amPurchased a Hampton Bay Folian patio set. After less that two years the paint is coming off. Beeing on the phone with Home Depot and Manufacturer for the past two month, they will replace it if I pay $250.00 to ship. I say NO WAY ….
May 10th, 2009 at 8:56 amI got two JRA Garden Oasis Patio sets from Sears. Spent over $2500.00. Need new cushions. Will TSY replace them. I had a 5 yr warranty.
May 12th, 2009 at 2:54 pmCalled TSY – they were polite and advised me they do not replace Sears JRA furniture. Anyone knows who does?
May 12th, 2009 at 3:21 pmTry Victory Land – 1-800-933-0527. On the phone with them right now. My set is from Sam’s Club and we are not having very good luck finding my item, but they are trying.
May 14th, 2009 at 2:24 pmI called them , they said JRA filed Bankrupcy and no they do not replace cushions. No luck! Thanks.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:41 amFor Pam looking for a number for NuMark. I just talked to a rep at NuMark about a patio chair under warranty from Sears. He was helpful and friendly. The customer service number I got from Sears for NuMark is 800-457-4652.
May 15th, 2009 at 2:33 pmI’m looking for anyone that purchased the 12 x 12 Prairie Stone Pillar gazebo from Sears back in 2007. I’m looking for replacement parts. Does anyone have one they aren’t using? Ours blew over in a wind storm and the pillars got damaged. Thanks!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:46 amwhere can i get cheap replacement cusions? I hate the ones they have at loews or walmart. All flowery. Thanks!
May 19th, 2009 at 10:23 amLike everyone, I feel duped, but be it as it may, I am stuck with a patio set (chaise lounge) in need of repair without any support.
I purchased (from Art Van) a table and four chairs, as well as two small side tables and two chaise lounges, They are manufactured by JRA. Their description is simply “Steel Strap Chaise Lounge/Green Finish. The plastic rungs on the back of the chaise lounges have broken off, so the chair is not able to adjust to varying heights. I have tried to buy replacement parts, but have had no success. I also tried contacting TSY Services at 1-800-585-9969, but there is simply a recorded message indicating their working hours, but no one is there and the recording says “thank you” and hangs up.
Any support would be appreciated. I would really be interested in learning where I might be able to purchase parts for my chaise lounges, which are now useless.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:34 amPURCHASED A 7 PC. SET IN JUNE OF 2007. ONE BY ONE, EVERY CHAIRS IS SNAPPED AT BOTTOM. HAD A FEW LAUGHS AS PEOPLE FELL TO THE GROUND, BUT NOT SO FUNNY!!!! WE NOTICED LAST YEAR THE CHAIRS ARE BEING MANUFACTURED WITH A BLOCK AT THE BOTTOM WHERE THE ROCKER IS, BUT NO LUCK GETTING REPLACMENTS ON OUR CHAIR FRAMES. WILL NEVER BUY THIS JUNK AGAIN!!! GOING BACK TO THE OLD DAYS, PICNIC TABLE.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:06 amI purchased a gazebo from Sears last year. I paid $299.00 for it. I assembled it one time and the wind immediately ripped the top apart. I call sears and they said I had a 90day time to respond back to them. I am sure the item they sold me was dryrott. What other recourse do I have? I have a very large gazebo contructed on my back lawn and no top.
June 26th, 2009 at 11:26 amwhat really makes me want to pull out my hair is that in the process of hiding from people that they ripped off, I have no way of simply ordering replacement cushions to match my set. If this company would just deal with their mistakes(and make their phone # known to more than just employees) they might make a few dollars from customers that just want to buy their products…what a novel idea…I’ll advertise an attractive product and not tell anybody how to buy it, yeah!!, maybe I too will have to file for bankruptcy
June 27th, 2009 at 2:53 amWe purchased a Hampton Bay 7 piece Calabria set from Home Depot last May and the set has been on our indoor, enclosed patio for the past year. Just this past weekend, the swivel rocker my son was sitting in collapsed. The rocker base broke completely off the chair! We are not sure what to do now. I cannot find any info about replacement parts on the internet. I am going to try the TSY number for help.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:18 amThanks for all your leg work. I too purchased a JRA product and to my dismay, when I needed a replacement for the Gazebo, no luck contracting them. Sears, where I purchased mine, no longer has any stock. I will try to call YSY on Monday. If you have any contacts with a replacement cover for the Patio Gazebo (12X12), I’d love to get my hands on it…regardless of the maker, as long as it will fit. Thanks again for all your help.
July 19th, 2009 at 6:11 pmOctober of 2008 I purchased a Hampton Bay four swivel bar chair set for my patio from Home depot.
I was finding bits and pieces of plastic on the ground which had the consistency of a soda craker and just fell apart when picked up. I Finnally found that this plastic was or should I say were, the covers that are placed over the swivel mechanizim of the chair. To make things worse two of the four chairs have broken down in the swivel mecanizm with one chair top falling off the base when moved. Further inspection of the mecanizm showed complete failure of the plastic insert which serves as the swivel mechecnism.
Since the light metal work has held up nicely over the past year and I like the size and shape of the chair I contacted Home Depot were I purchased the set less than a year ago. I found out that Home Depot does not carry replacement parts.
Yet according to the various representatives I have talked to, they have had numerous requests for that very same part.
If JRA Furniture/ Hampton Bay is out of businees, why is Home Depot still selling their products?
July 20th, 2009 at 1:55 pmThis is in reponse to Nadia’s post on July 19, 2009 about a replacement canopy. Go to http://www.gardenwinds.com. They have replacement canopies for all different gazebos and the nice part is they are specific to the store and the manufacturer. I just purchased a canopy replacement for my JRA furniture 12 x 12 gazebo that I also bought from Sears. Good luck!
July 28th, 2009 at 12:10 pmShould have just returned the thing to Home Depot at the get go and none of this would have transpired ! ! !
August 22nd, 2009 at 4:32 pmI have the set from K-Mart, Victoria it has cracked, peeled cushio9ns fded awful,
but if I only had a Crank to lift the Umbrella up. Does anyone know where I can get one plus parts that go in the inside poler to Lift?
Thanks
August 30th, 2009 at 8:27 pmProblem: I don’t know who made my patio set, I purchesed it 6 years ago from Sam’s Club, I have had no problems at all with the workmanship or function of the product….but now thw fabric is rotting and I am in need of replacement seats…I think I have found a starting point here, JRA & TSY.
September 4th, 2009 at 7:54 amOn the subject of broken table tops, may I suggest finding a plastics supplier and purchase a piece of plexiglass or Pulsun sheet plastic…some of these places will also cut the piese to match what you need.
My year old seating set (hampton Bay) looks over 10 years old. Chipped paint, flat cushions, loose strapping. Called home depot. They were no help at all.Did not tell me the manf. JRA filed for bankruptcy. He told me he could file a complaint w/ manf. He could not exchange it for me.Iam left w/ a very unappealing outside sitting area for $900.
September 29th, 2009 at 12:08 pmThe base of my Hampton Calabria II swivel rocker that I purchased from Home Depot cracked at the welds. Although the chair was slightly out of warranty I reported it anyway to the manufactures rep in KY. They initially didnt offer any solutions but when I politley informed them I appreciated thier time anyway but that the next time I purchase a patio set I may not cinsider a Hampton product they agreed to send me a replacement base. I now have the base but it appears you need a special tool to detach the chair from the base. I’ve notified Hampton CS ad am awaiting a solution unless one of you nice folks has any suggestions.
October 25th, 2009 at 11:24 amI bought a Martha Stewart Victoria Collection Dinning table and 5 chairs from KMart a couple of years ago. Before the warranty was out we heard a very loud explosion outside. We went out and could find no reason why out table tob had shattered. We thought it had only happened to us. I went to KMart, and the manager gave us a new table.
November 18th, 2009 at 2:52 pmI guess I’ll join the group. I boughta 9 piece set from SAM’S. I guess I should consider myself lucky since the set has lasted for the past 5 years and no broken glass. The umbrella canopy has just worn out and I have looked everywhere for a replacement canopy with no luck. If you have any suggestions please post it. This is very sad.
March 15th, 2010 at 6:57 pmI came across your blog and thought I would finally get lucky with the phone number you posted but they do not handle issues with the Hampton Bay Calabria II set. My husband sat in our swivel chair 6 months after we purchased it and it broke in three places. I would gladly purchase the whole bottom for a swivel chair at this point but can not find anyone who will help me.
April 7th, 2010 at 1:57 pmi purchased a numark patio set at kmart the ellison 7 piece on 3-20-10 and put all the chairs and glass top table together on 4-6-10 one of the swivel chairs bolts broke and 2 days later the same thing happened to the other i called kmart and they said i have to go through numark and kmart will not replace them i am going to call numark tomorrow but after reading all these complaints i am worried i’ll be out of luck,i will keep you all posted
April 7th, 2010 at 9:39 pmwell so far on april 8th i called numark and was told that she never heard of the bolt tops coming of and said to e mail pics of all 2 swivel chairs and 1 stationary chair to her and she would mail out replacement frame for stationary chair and new bolts and attachments for the swivel chairs.well i sent all at 2pm est on april 8th and still no call or e mail back so i phoned today and spoke to someone else and was told that tammy@numark.bz will get message and still no replies.after this is done i will never buy anything again from kmart or sears!!!!never
April 9th, 2010 at 7:40 pmI too have a JRA product. I purchased a 12 x 12 Gazebo, Brittany Collection, from Sam’a Club a couple of years back. I have been very pleased with my purchase but the Gazebo top finally wore out. I took good care of it and only kept the top on during the summer months and stored it during winter.
April 20th, 2010 at 3:52 amI recently learned the JRA is no longer around and thought I would be replacing my entire Gazebo until I ran across this site, www. gardenwinds.com. They actually have replacement Gazebo tops for many well known manufacturers, including JRA! So I ordered from them even though I was skeptical of the top fitting. I was shocked! The top not only fits, it had the same mounting and is made from a much better fabric. So to anyone that is looking to replace a Gazebo top, check out gardenwinds…maybe you’ll get lucky, just like I did.
Thanks, Keith, Salisbury, NC
***Replacement Gazebo Tops***
April 20th, 2010 at 4:03 amI forgot to mention in my previous blog…I was expecting to pay several hundred dollars for my replacement Gazebo top. I was very impressed to find exactly what I needed at gardenwinds.com.
The replacement top was $149 with Free Shipping. Once I received my order and found that it fit perfectly and was of better guality than the original, I placed another order for a “back-up” top just in case…I feel sure I’d never get lucky enough to find another top after this one wears out.
I did notice that gardenwinds has lots of replacements for other items and/or brands…so it may be worth checking the site for your need(s) as well.
Thanks, Keith, Salisbury, NC
after much looking for new furniture for my pool deck, I bought the oakbrook bar set from sears in july of 08. got it out the next season and all of the barstool arms were rusty, bottoms rusty, and the bar had spots too. sears referred me to numark, and they told me that they would send me new tops only, and I had to pay to get them shipped. when I got them the very first thing i did was spray them with clear coat,(6-09)now this year even those are rusting. Called and was told not under warrenty, now the bartop has shattered (good luck getting that replaced), all rusty, basically bunch of junk
June 28th, 2010 at 3:38 pmI am in need of replacement webbing for one of my swivel rockers. Can anyone email me where i can find this. Vicburek@gmail.com
August 24th, 2010 at 12:45 pmi ran into the same problem and found that hamptonbaycushions.com seems to carry a good amount of replacement parts and repair parts and is trying to clean this mess up. the martha stewart line has the same problem so i hear and theres a website out there that has the parts to fit the hampton bay furniture on another site on a google search that i found before
August 30th, 2010 at 8:56 ami found the other site that carrys replacement parts for Hampton Bay Furniture, its http://www.marthastewartreplacementcushions.com
August 30th, 2010 at 8:57 amhttp://www.hamptonbaycushions.com is out of parts apparently.. but stay posted im sure they will restock
August 30th, 2010 at 8:58 amI am looking for replacement fabric for the, brittany collection, multi position chaise. It was bought at sams club about5 years ago.
September 1st, 2010 at 5:33 pmhttp://www.chaircarepatio.com
September 1st, 2010 at 6:30 pmI found this site that will coustom make the sling. They have pleanty of different fabric selections.
we have a hampton bay “melbourne” gazebo 10 x 10,(purchased at Home Depot about 2yrs ago) and in the process of moving, lost some of the brackets and hardware.
September 15th, 2010 at 3:52 pmcontacted the above website and am waiting for a reply on cost of parts and shipping.
they also had the assembly instructions and parts list available for free download.
they might be able to help with so of the other problems.
I fortunately never had such a big problem with patio furniture that I purchased. I tend to visit patio sites like gardenpatioset.com and search engines prior to making the purchase. That way, I found your blog and while it’s been a few years, it still helped me in the decision making process. Customer care is as important as the goods that are sold, and companies who do not understand that will lose business because of this, and the Internet.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:30 pmI purchased 2 hampton swivel gliders at Kmart. The welds on the swivel portion broke. Does anyone know where I can purchase the swivel (bottom piece). I am sick and tired of chinese crap breaking buy American!
January 3rd, 2011 at 7:54 pmHi, can anyone tell me how I can reach the Numark Company? I’ve spent days surfing the net with no luck at all. I purchased a 3 Person Gabezo Style Swing Set with Canopy and Side Netting about 5 years ago at Sams Club. The Canopy and the Tarp Cover that originally came with the set has long since given out and am looking to replace them. I am very satisfied with the set and won’t want it to go to waste. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
March 19th, 2011 at 7:47 amJust finished dealing with K-Mart about an assembled 3-piece “Bistro” set. It was hap-hazzardly put together and missing several bolts. True, it was a floor model and discounted a whole 10% but come on assemblers at K-Mart, use ALL the parts. While sitting in the patio furniture area trying to get the # to the distributor, I noticed several of the floor models were missing bolts. When I brought that to the attention of the manager on duty, she kind of blew it off. Anyway, I was able to get a number for the distributor and a very nice lady emailed me the owners manual so I could tell her exactly what parts were missing. Will see if and when they arrive. I am optimistic. JB Colon, you are looking for Numark Industries info? email numark.ashley@yahoo.com or call 800 457-4652.
May 4th, 2011 at 5:49 pmAlso, to anyone who has purchased patio furniture at K-Mart (or Sears), call 888 289-8616. I spoke to a Miss Angela an she was able to get me a telephone number to the distributor. She was extremely helpful and polite too!
May 4th, 2011 at 5:52 pmWow this is scary. I have a personal blog on patio furniture (focusing on patio door window treatments) but I’m never gonna buy there anymore…forget it.
May 19th, 2011 at 3:35 amPurchased a Martha Stewart living Grand Banks 7 piece patio set. Tempered glass top shattered into a “million” pieces as I was installing the umbrella!Home Depot was not helpful.
May 21st, 2011 at 5:37 pmTo the person who started these postings and posted on November 11, 2007. If you still have the Beige rectangular table top with the vines & leaves under the glass, I’d be happy to purchase it from you. That’s the exact one I’ve been trying to replace!
June 27th, 2011 at 3:34 pmJudy – Sorry, but we discarded this a few years ago. Good luck though!
June 30th, 2011 at 2:24 pmThank you for the phone number to TSY, this has been very helpful in finding replacement cusions for 2007 patio set purchased from Sams Club

August 30th, 2011 at 4:53 amWe and a son both purchased the same Hampton Bay Sydney sets in 2006. Thankfully we have not had any glass shattering YET. The two swivel chairs on our set make an awful noise and I fear they may come apart. Also, BOTH umbrellas broke in short order – similar to Gary Hammerling’s experience above.
Do these things have a warranty? Is it worth the hassle? Is there any way to protect yourself from shattering glass ahead of time?
Just one more thing to worry about…….
September 21st, 2011 at 12:58 pmI HAVE BEEN IN THIS BUSINESS OF RETAILING PATIO FURNITURE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND i FEEL TERRIBLE WHEN i READ THESE BLOGS BECAUSE THE BOTTOM LINE IS ALMOST NONE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED PRODUCTS COST ENOUGH MONEY TO BE PROPERLYU MANUFACTURERD FOR OUTDOOR USE. GREAT FOR A QUICK FIX (PROVIDING YOU HAVE NO ISSUES).
December 12th, 2011 at 4:10 pmSteel rusts, (quickly too), tempered glass tops shatter and are quite expensive to replace if even possible. Umbrellas really take a beating and generally speaking- if undert 100.00-you cannot get parts. Look for welded aluminum products, avoid glass and buy a good umbrella. It is well worth the money and lasts for years and years of enjoyment. Otherwise, plan on replacing generally every third if all goes well.
