Two Books Read by Virtually All Successful People
I just received the latest issue of Dan Miller’s 48 Days Newsletter (If you aren’t already subscribing, you should be able to read the issue online shortly.) In the lead article Dan talks about how when his business crashed in 1988 he “made a commitment to spend two hours a day reading, listening, praying and meditating on positive, encouraging material.” This has obviously worked very well for him over the years.
He also says in the article:
Two books read by virtually all successful people: (1) ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ by Napoleon Hill, and (2) ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People,’ by Dale Carnegie.
I listen to a lot of audio books. They have fit my lifestyle well in recent years. At present I am seeing a bit of a shift more towards printed and bound medium though.
How to Win Friends and Influence People has been available for quite some time through Audible.com. The cost is $28.97 if you buy it by itself, or you can become a member for $9.95 and get it for free.
Think and Grow Rich has been much more elusive in a downloadable audio book. I recently discovered that it is available via the Yahoo! Music Engine. (The previous link will only work if you have the Yahoo! Music Engine Installed.) If you already have a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription you can listen to this audio book at no extra charge. You can also get a Yahoo! Music Unlimited Free Trial and listen to it for free. You can also purchase it for only $8.47. What a great deal either way!
In the morning I typically start my day with 30 minutes of reading and study. I currently telecommute 2 days a week and on days that I commute to my day job I typically spend an hour and a half listening to audio books or podcasts. Each evening, I typically invest an hour or so in reading blogs related to business, productivity, and personal growth. I’ve been doing all this for several years now myself and can certainly tell a difference.
So, how much time do you spend each day, “reading, listening, praying and meditating on positive, encouraging material”?
Good advice. I have both of those books and need to get them on CD or download them to my ipod. I definitely could spend more time each day reading, listening, praying and meditating on positve, encouraging material. That is time that I believe is extremely important, but seems to be the first I allow to fall by the wayside when my days are full.
I was searching the web on how I could better achieve many of my life’s dreams and came upon your site. I found another site that has helped me tremendously and thought you and your readers might be interested. The site is by Marcia Wieder and is
http://www.mauidreamretreat.com. She is also giving away a maui
dream retreat that I think would be the perfect place to renew,
rejuvinate, restore, and set attainable goals!! Our world is changing so much that I am convinced the only way we can be successful and happy is to find our passion. Marcia helps in not only finding our passion but setting attainable goals to achieve our life dreams.
Again, thank you for sharing good, practical information!!
May your day be filled richly with blessings and joy!
