I buy a good number of audio books from Audible.com. Some of them I just move to my MP3 player to listen to while I work out or something, but I also burn some of them to CD. I find that the CD format is easier to listen to while I commute in my truck.

I’ve read The Purpose Driven Life twice and I’ve even lead bible studies on it. It really is a great book. I had also bought it from Audible.com but I had a hard time using it in the truck. You see, you aren’t supposed to read more than one chapter a day. The chapters can typically be read in ten to fifteen minutes. When you burn an Audible.com selection to CD the tracks don’t necessarily begin and end where the chapters begin and end. This meant that I had to either listen to no other CDs for 40 days or find my place every day to listen to the next day’s chapter. Neither of these was a good choice.

I spend my commutes for a day and a half just forwarding to the next chapter break. I would speak the chapter number along with the track and time information into the voice recorded on my Palm Tungsten T2. When I finished I put all this information into a spreadsheet and printed out a nice little index that I keep with the CDs. Now I just look at this each day and I know where I need to start.
